Another hockey-centric edition of The Reid Wilkins Show with Jason Milne sees us gabbing about the NHL Playoffs, the Edmonton Oilers and the upcoming Memorial Cup! Reid Wilkins and Jay Milne open a lengthy discussion about an article examining Connor McDavid's leadership abilities. Postmedia's Gerry Moddejonge penned the column which investigated McDavid's overall tenure as the team's captain. He dissected McDavid's character before comparing him to the 14 others who sported a 'C' with the Oilers. Moddejonge joins Reid and Jay in the studio to explain it all. We continue to engage in the constant coaching conversation in town before branching out into the other NHL markets. Wilkins and Milne recap Vegas' Game 1 win against Colorado out West. Their attention then shifts to the Hurricanes/Canadiens series, which starts tonight. They explore other key moments from MLB, the NBA, CEBL and everything else before teeing up this year's Memorial Cup! To gain some professional insight on the matter, Guy Flaming, host of The Pipeline Show and colour analyst for the Edmonton Oil Kings, clicks into the program! Oilers debate, offseason talk, playoff previews, junior discussion, fan input, honest takes, and much more are aired on today's show! 🕰️ TIMESTAMPS: 🕰️ 3:30: Top stories/show intro 10:00: McDavid is everything to the Edmonton Oilers... except a good captain 35:30: McDavid leads by example... 43:00: Too much too soon? If McDavid wasn’t the captain, would the media stop asking him questions after the game? I just think it would be unavoidable when you are the best player in the world. As Gretzky wasn’t the leader of the 80s Oilers, McDavid isn’t the leader of this team. It is purely optics than substance.
I appreciate Gerry for coming in person to talk about his article. It was interesting. Thanks for having him on your show.
I'm still not sure if I agree with Gerry's take... But on the other hand I do know what it's like to fill a role that's not suited to my skill set because I should or feel like I have too. Does being forced to step out of one's comfort level as a leader detract from their ability to win? It's an interesting question. I dont have the info to agree, but it's an interesting question.
He probably believed steve yzerman was a bad captain for 13 years before he won a cup then
It’s funny people say McDavid doesn’t like the spotlight or being the face of the league yet he’s in 2 of every 4 commercials every time I watch tv. Legit about 7 this year alone, can’t even count the total. Sure seems to be okay with it there.
Everthing he says is bases on "i feel , I think"... no real substance in calling out McDavid. So he calls out the team in the Florida series and he says it was to late. What does that tell you about this so called reporter.
You really lost me with your logic when you said you’d rather no one wore the “C.” It’s absolutely ridiculous. Is Connor’s talent solely his fault? He’s the one who wears his heart on his sleeve, that his fault? leads the team to a cup finals, and becomes the best player his fault? The more you talk about this, the more it sounds like you’re trying to get clicks. You seem to forget how he recently expressed his desire to win with his teammates. That would be a better feeling than him alone. And his desire to win in Edmonton? Your article is pathetic.
/x_rvRQXQCG0?si=HYv3W94x2aiqIFNP People outside of Edmonton recognize what a dumb take this guy has put out there.
