At 61, I went to a BTS concert alone... and what happened that night had nothing to do with the music. It opened something in me I'd been carrying for decades. This is a slow living story about joy, Asian identity, and finally giving yourself permission to feel glad to be alive. I've spent most of my life being careful with joy. Careful with money. Careful with wanting things that felt frivolous or too big for me. But careful and intentional are not the same thing, and I learned that difference standing in the middle of 68,000 people. In this video I share what really happened that night: the moment I thought I missed the train, the stranger who handed me a gift in the crowd, and the quiet realization on the train home that broke a very old story I'd been telling myself about who I'm allowed to be. If you've ever held yourself back from something that brought you joy, this one's for you. ____________________________ ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Something the younger me never would have done 0:50 The Denise moment: how I ended up going alone 2:30 The deeper why: how BTS pulled me through the hardest years 3:45 Fit check and heading to the stadium 5:30 Meeting "Army" and the pre-concert nerves 7:35 The concert experience 8:30 Finding beauty in the Asian identity 10:55 Grandma Taba and making room for joy 11:35 What Ikigai and Wabi-sabi actually look like 13:15 Healing that 8-year-old girl 14:55 The train home: a decision to stop being careful 15:40 Living your self-love journey ____________________________ 💌 Join my newsletter for more on slow living, wellness after 50, and letting go of what no longer fits: https://pensight.com/x/danafindwell 🎋 More slow living: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqSUKxRjMOadbMn65bjSL63SQirFth_xi #SlowLiving #LifeAfter50 #BTSConcert #SelfLove #Ikigai #OkinawanHeritage #WabiSabi #OverFifty #SlowLivingLifestyle #GoingAlone ____________________________ #ad As an Amazon Associate and affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. In 2022 at age 71 I too decided "Why not" and flew to Las Vegas alone for the concert and even got in a kayaking trip while I was there, best decision ever. The ARMY is the kindest most inclusive fandom, there are people of every race, gender, and age united by their love of BTS. Excited to be seeing them again at age 75, alone, in East Rutherford NJ in August.💜
I, too, am 61 and I am attending NINE+ BTS Arirang shows solo. I went to Jin and Hobi's tours alone as well. I will not miss out on my life any longer by being too timid or by waiting for others. Good for you!
I'm Japanese 69 widow and living alone in Orlando. I went to BTS concert Tampa D2 by myself. I'm Silver ARMY since 2014. I got a injured my left ankle at gate of Tampa Stadium before starting concert. But many ARMYs help me to my seat. If my ankle is healed I want get ticket for Las Vegas.
I am 71 today and am going to London concert .saw Jin last year and it was the best day!
You had me crying. It’s a beautiful story worth sharing. Thank you for sharing. 💜
I started going to concerts alone at 61 also. What a ride! Singing at the top of my lungs, waving a lightstick and feeling so free. Now I've made friends in fan communities and it's even better. Literally NOBODY CARES HOW YOU COME TO A CONCERT!!! We're all too busy having fun.
I would love to know, what's one impractical thing you’ve done lately that brought you pure joy? 💜🌸
This made me cry, Dana. How often have I denied myself joy because I was afraid and didn’t think I deserved it. Your experience has given me a whole new perspective. Thank you! 😊❤
This is a little mini-movie! I was smiling through the whole video and then I cried. Beautiful. Joyous. BTS will be so proud ❤
I’m so proud of you!! You’re an inspiration.
I am a black ARMY since 2014, and it brings me so much joy to see Asians be prouder of their culture, but more importantly, be vocal about it. For a long time, Asians allowed other races to tell them how they should view themselves. Other races would enjoy Asian culture, but still treat Asians like sub-humans, but because of BTS, a barrier has been broken, and Asians can finally receive recognition for their contributions and hard work in the industry. I love learning and I was hoping you would know what the masks are that come on the big screen during They Don't Know Bout Us at BTS shows?
I’m 60 and I’m going to the Las Vegas show tonight alone. So excited.
Oh thank you for sharing this. I’m 62 and going alone too. I found BTS several years after my husband died. They gave me a reason to keep going when I felt like I had lost everything. Then 2 years ago, I was gravely ill. I spent 2 months in hospital and 3 months in a nursing facility. I came within minutes of dying twice. It left me unable to walk, stand or do almost anything for myself, but Not Today played over and over in my head. Every time I wanted to give up, I’d hear No, not today. I kept going. I can walk again. I can drive and live on my own. I said I have to go. They’ve given me back my life twice. I always have pushed myself to the background because I’m very tall (no worries, there is a wall behind me so no one’s view is blocked). I’m really afraid. I’ve never navigated a major metropolitan city on my own. I feel like no one will speak to me or just ignore me the whole time because I’m 62. If you can do it, I think I can too. Today’s not the day I give up!
Thanks for your touching story. I’m 55 years old and have been BTS ARMY since 2018. (Suga bias, V bias wrecker). In 2017, my husband was diagnosed with end stage renal disease and unexpectedly passed away from it in 2024. BTS and their music have been that healing through line. I had tickets to see them May 2020. But Covid cancelled their tour. I finally get to see them in August in TX. I’m so glad you got to see our 7 men live! And experience the love and support of ARMY too!
Yes, you hit a jackpot for that seat for THAT price! Wow!
Your story is deeply touching to me. You made me cry. Thanks for sharing your story.
I love this vlog , as someone who just turned 20 and feels overwhelmed and has found bts at hard times this was such a treat to watch
I love your story, especially since I am going to Las Vegas by myself tomorrow and I am almost 71. But whoever told y’all the tickets were to be so expensive did you a disservice.
Your words reflect so much how I feel at a similar age. Thank you for sharing.
Your story made me cry. Thank you for sharing.
