This film is adapted from the story of the famous baseball player Jackie Robinson. Born on January 31, 1919, and died on October 24, 1972, he was the first African American player in Major League Baseball history. Before he made his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, wearing jersey number 42 as the starting first baseman, African American players were only allowed to play in their own Negro Leagues. Although slavery had long been abolished in the United States, racial segregation still existed in many areas, and pervasive racial prejudice strongly influenced all levels of society. Therefore, the day Robinson stepped onto the Major League stage is widely recognized as one of the most important events in the history of the modern American civil rights movement.
