This really shows how much body weight impacts cycling, as an ex bodybuilder trying to become a cyclist and lose weight (not a very good one) I’m sitting at about 100kg. Olly climbing hardknot pass is producing the same power that I need to generate to climb a 6-9% climb into my local village. And he’s a lot fitter than me, no wonder I’m struggling!
0:17 In this short scene both European riders forgot to mention the biggest problem with cycling in England: Potholes. Lots of potholes.
I can't imagine anyone would think the UK would be shit for cycling. From the Netherlands, we are blessed and cursed - the latter because I wish we had the range of terrain types and beautiful vistas that you all have! If the UK had Dutch cyclepaths, it would be an absolute dream.

I did it in 8 hours, and I can assure you this ride is a lot harder than it looks here. These guys make it look easy. I pushed my bike all the way up Hardknott Pass — there was absolutely no way I could have ridden up that climb. Even walking uphill was brutal. And then, one minute later, you start descending — surprise: the gradient is just as steep on the other side, only now you’re going down. It was scary AF. Kudos to my entry-level carbon wheels by Wiggle and rim brakes — they got the job done. A fantastically spent day and definitely one to remember.
