Our modern internet culture has transformed practical parenting advice into performative, engagement-driven content that increases clutter, mental load, perfectionism, and consumerism while pretending to simplify motherhood. I genuinely love watching how you’ve been changing and reflecting on your own past content and taking us along the journey. ❤
The answer is simplicity not a product. If they’re selling it to you, you don’t need it. This realization has been so liberating.
When I realized that all these influences are getting paid to do these tasks. That mom is being paid to make elaborate snack packs. I don't have time to build that detailed snack because that isn't my paid job.
Poverty has made me see these hacks in a different view and not fall for it lol
I really appreciate that you call your old self out and show us that it can happen to anyone 9:53
Such a good point about seeing the strengths of hundreds of other moms and comparing yourself to this Franken-mom. The meal prep mom might have piles of clutter everywhere you look, and the ultra organized mom might grab takeout more often than she'd like. Heck, maybe they're just showing you the one super tidy cabinet and skipping over their garage full of junk from the 90s. And they'll never admit it to us, so all we see is this ultra-ideal mom that doesn't actually exist
I have watched you for years. I think the reason I resonated so much with this is because you’ve found balance. We are all wanting it- a person can swing too far to the one side of minimalist, and sometimes that isn’t what a family needs. The other side is too many things- which I think is the overly consuming side… I appreciate that you are for balance, value, real life, and contributing to our family/society.
The waste - of food, packaging, land-fill bait plastic containers - in so many of these hacks makes me twitch.
As a Lego enthusiast whose son loves making his own creations, there’s nothing wrong with sorting Lego. But, do it by shape, not color.
I have a rule of not buying any individual use kitchen gadgets based solely on not wanting to clean any of them. 😅 whatever time you’re saving me by using it is just making me mad later when I have to clean it.
I’m guilty of this. And then I’m stuck with organizing all my organization items and it becomes clutter
Every time I see that pizza slice holder I think, “actually that’s pretty genius.” That said, our family tends to consume however much pizza is available, so we just try to cut down on how much we order/make so that we don’t overeat, but there are no leftovers.
So the snack prep mom makes the same snack pack for all of the 6-7 kids, even if they were twins, the kids don't want to eat the same thing or same amount. It's all for entertainment, which this video calls out! great job
Also I hate hearing about snackle boxes lol
Dali! A surrealist is the ideal analyst for our insane moment in history.
"simplification" goals ARE overwhelming me. My mind is spinning. Thank you for stating the obvious; I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Now I'm tackling my basement...pitch, pitch, pitch. Wish me luck. Yuck!
So totally agree with this video and I'm loving your recent content. BUT I do actually love those water bottle toppers you mentioned in the video. I keep one for each kid in the car glove box in a Ziploc for "emergencies" (aka leaving/losing their reusable water bottles). The kids love them and saves me from a meltdown. Not all products are bad, we just need to be discerning about what will work for our families without adding more effort
I have always loved watching your videos and am really enjoying your deeper dive into topics. Thanks for challenging all of us to continually reflect and grow.
I love the tissue box holder, though. The tissues we like come in such ugly boxes that it makes me happy to cover them up! Plus, we have a box of tissues in every room.
I will die for the egg organizer. It’s slimmer than an egg carton so it fits better in the fridge and it’s easier to tell how many eggs you have left (that second part may be influenced by my ADHD). Also…I use the carton for my insects
