You're extra wide tunnel should have some benches in that space maybe a message board contemplation place some decoration. A nice underground place to hang out especially if it's scorching hot outside
Double Width Tunnels is the right way to go, 1 for tubes or path, other for the spinning logs moving mechanical energy around
I made a tower build when they introduced the overhangs. It stood in a shallow lake (fed by a sluice, of course) with the exits being through water. Food and wood farming was in and around this lake. And there was also a mine surrounded by levies and accessible directly from the tower. Houses on 2 sides of the staircase, overhangs protruding from two other sides carrying various industries and other amenities. nearly everything that could be built this way ended up on the tower. Soon after I completed it (admittedly, the wonder was not on the tower but on the high ground connected to the tower with a bridge - there also were a few ground-only buildings in that area), an update changed height of some building and half the heavy industry side vanished...
