2t had a dirty little secret. It needed an expansion chamber a power valve a bit better port timing and a tight little squish band in a high compression head to bring on power band. Whacked in a dirt bike and to many of us. It was like the day the Lord said let there be light😂 oh that smell that sound that feeling of floating above the ground at warp speed. That's heaven boys "Valhalla here I come."

The most efficient prime movers in the world are......2 strokes BUT they are fuel injected diesels so don't have the issue of the charge getting into the exhaust port....used mainly on ships.

You get some of that effect with an expansion chamber which gives you that burst of power at a higher RPM. 💥💨

Gasoline 2-stroke engines on motorcycles have what's called an expansion chamber that controls the exhaust flow and helps to divert some of that unburned fuel back into the combustion chamber before going out the exhaust.

I was fortunate enough to own the pinnacle of the two stoke giants, I’m a rare survivor of the mid eighties Honda CR 500, mine was the 87 version, all of my friends who rode wanted to try the “Widow Maker” I always asked them the same thing, Do you have $87.00 on you? Always a strange question, but that’s what the rear fender cost, it was a snarling beast in every gear, (I think? Nobody started in first gear) could frightened even the most experienced riders.

Those old Steyr-Daimler-Puch 250's are now worth around $4,500.. Sears sold them for around $370 back in the day

Puch (Steyr-Daimler-Puch?) made a 250cc version of this system but the cylinders were in tandem, not across the frame. it looked to me to be a beautifully engineered bike but as it had a couple of issues I wasn't sure I could cheaply address, i passed. It was cheap enough but its rarity would most likely have made it an impossibility to find spares for it. I never saw another till at a show of old bikes at a country fair in Angus. it was mechanically quiet, unlike the ghastly rattlers perpetrated by BSA on its long lived Bantam range. Nowhere near as smoky as Bantams either. Too strange to succeed. Two pistons inside a shared combustion chamber??? I've a feeling it was an expensive option for a 250cc stroker single.

I have a Sears Twingle motorcycle. It was made in Austria by the Steyr-Daimler-Puch company. Runs pretty good.
