Get ready for phones with easily removable batteries again! The EU is mandating it to fight e-waste. I'm hoping this means no more replacing my whole phone just for a dead battery. But will big tech find loopholes? #RemovableBatteries #TechNews #Ewaste #FutureTech #iPhone

The exemption covers products that maintain 80% battery health after 1,000 charge cycles, which technically applies to most phones manufactured in the past years. So don't expect this law to change anything.
Imagine removing a 0% battery for a 100% battery in just 1 min
Nah Trust me Apple is going to go ahead with this rule and say "THE REVOLUTIONARY NEW TECHNOLOGY : REMOVABLE BATTERIES" 😂
Built in obsolensence and enshitification must be tackled. We went from repairing everything to binning everything in just 30 years.
So basically nothing is about to change unless it's an off brand phone.
Great news, Fairphone allows you to change loads, including the OS. Should be standard. The age of disposable tech needs to end, and the age of reliable tech arrive.
I replaced the battery in an iPhone 6S Plus a while back. What a nightmare.
Under the EU Ecodesign and Battery regulations, a smartphone can remain completely sealed (requiring specialized tools or professional replacement) if it satisfies both of the following criteria: High Cycle Longevity: The battery must retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles (or 83% after 800 cycles). Water & Dust Resistance: The device must have a certified ingress protection rating of IP67 or higher (meaning it can withstand being submerged in water). Welp, at least phones will have ip67 now. Ain't no way those greedy ass companies are gonna make switching the battery easy. There would be no incentive for the user to switch if they can pop in a fresh 6000 mah and keep going another 2-3 years
they don't want people casually taking their battery out whenever they want, that would leave holes in their all important surveillance system.
There is a trade off. No more dust water resistance near as good as it is now.
They should ban glass back covers too. Waiting on my battery to die before replacing both.
Bet they'll pull a stupid move like providing low amperage battery so it won't last a day "because it's swappable"
They should make the camera modules upgradable in smartphones. That would cut down on waste too.
Oh the good ole days
What about water resistance?
As I recall it took about 12 years or so (I may be under estimating) for Apple to comply with the USB-C requirement. So I think we have some time before "phones change forever".
Excuse me, all that hand gestures look like you re fighting a pack of hornets... lol cudos n godspeed! 😂🎉😢😊
As a Master Technician if the system locks up/freezes removing the battery is necessary.
This is called Regulatory Capture. It doesn't affect the existing large companies, but makes it harder for smaller competing businesses to enter the market.
Finally! Remember when batteries were once removable?
