What I love most about it is that he didn’t make a performance out of his good deed. Didn’t turn to the camera and be like “look! I’m such a good person.” He just gave her the ball and let her have her moment

I wouldn’t say he did the “right” thing, because that implies he would have been a bad person to keep it. He did the kind thing for sure. There was no reason why he had to give away his ball but he was kind enough to.
