Great movie. But let's be honest, Elkanah didn't try at all. Even when I studied that part of the Bible, I noticed it, but the movie made it more glaring. He had the best intentions towards Hannah, but he didn't go about leading his household wisely. And that proved to be a big problem. He kept saying that he didn't mind that Hannah didn't have children, but if he actually didn't, he wouldn't have married Peninah. He'd have waited on God, together with Hannah. I felt Peninah's pain and hurt, and I feel like she wouldn't have been so mean and hurtful towards Hannah if Elkanah had given her a bit of love and affection. All her actions towards Hannah were out of hurt, desperation, frustration and anger. Hurt people will always hurt others. Elkanah wasn't a wise man and his wisdom greatly affected his family life. If he had done things differently, the story would have been very different.
