24-year-old Adlai Mestre, who was apprehended by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office in Tijeras, New Mexico. Law enforcement responded to a residence on Young Road after neighbors reported hearing gunshots, where they found Mestre outside, covered in blood and holding a handgun. Inside the home, deputies discovered a blood-soaked scene with signs of attempted cleanup, while the bodies of his father Raymundo, his mother Bertha, and his 17-year-old sister Brielle were discovered face down in a nearby ravine. The family dog was also found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds and had to be humanely euthanized due to its severe injuries. During his initial interrogation, Mestre displayed highly erratic and delusional behavior, rambling about hearing "seismic waves," claiming his house possessed thermal imaging, and writing notes about cell towers. He admitted to shooting his father in the living room and his mother as she descended the stairs before dragging their bodies to the ravine to bury them. While left alone in the interrogation room as deputies processed booking paperwork, Mestre became intensely agitated, violently kicking a hole through the drywall. News reports and bodycam footage show him crawling through the wall into an adjacent hallway in a frantic bid for freedom, though he was quickly tackled and recaptured by waiting detectives. Following the incident, Mestre faced three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of tampering with evidence, extreme animal cruelty, escape from police custody, and criminal damage to property.
