An urgent customer job rolls into the workshop that needs to be turned around today and with a surprise along the way that puts the pressure on! It’s a bowl lift cylinder off a Caterpillar 637 scraper in for a rebuild, with leaking seals, damaged chrome on the rod, and a seized trunnion cap already visible before teardown even begins. The rebuild starts with getting the cylinder disassembled and removing the seized trunnion mount using pressure from a grease gun before the rod assembly can be pulled apart and inspected. Thankfully the barrel turns out to be in good condition and only requires finish honing and cleaning, but the job quickly changes direction after finding a cracked weld on the rod eye from a previous repair. With no time to repair the damaged eye, another one is pulled from the exchange fleet. But even that creates more problems after discovering it was welded on crooked and has to be cut off and then machined before it’s ready to use. A brand new rod then gets machined up complete with the taper and thread for the piston nut before the replacement eye is fitted and welded into place. While that cools down, the barrel gets honed, the other parts go through the Apollo automatic hot wash, and the new shop made parts washer gets put to work cleaning out the honing oil from inside the barrel. Once everything is cleaned and cooled down, reassembly can begin with new seals, bearings and snap rings before the completed cylinder is bolted back together and prepared for transport. Another job successfully completed in time, even, with the pressure on from start to finish. Join our channel: We upload new videos every Friday at 5pm AEST! The parts washer fits in very well with all of the shop upgrades. It’s crazy how much your business has grown in the last couple of years. Keep up the great content. 👍
My favorite type of video. Curtis gets a can of worms and turns it into a beautiful fishing rod! Incredibly mad skills!
Karen, you make this channel so special and easy to watch with your extremely high camera and editing skills. I tip my hat to you!
I'm only at 1:00 but I'm already expecting this to be a "find time to do the maintenance or the machine will find time for you" situation XD
The insomnia is real tonight! My oldest son graduates high school tomorrow and I'm not ready!! Thanks for the hour- long distraction CEE! Charlie from Reams, Oklahoma, USA
Such a terrible week for me, but so good to get my weekly CEE notification. I hope the Chief Safety Officer hooch is doing well.
Good morning Cutting Edge Engineering Australia, best greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 !!
The videography just keeps getting better!! Toolcam shots are super sharp, and the shot of the weld pool in the root weld as the eye is attached is superb.
Thank You for the update on Homey! ❤❤❤❤ You know how much we all love the little guy!
I’m always so happy when I see a new video get posted. Lots of love to Homeless. Thanks for sharing your skill with us Kurtis, and Karen for the amazing filming/editing.
Ahh nothing quite like a good repair video on a Cat part, hopefully Homie is doing well too and you both are doing awesome!
You sir, are one of the best welders I've ever seen. I'm 68, seen alot of welders. Karen does a mighty fine job with the camera work too....
Using grease to release the bound mount is genius. I never would've expected it'd do that... :)
Nice work Karen, as usual.
A new CEE video is always a fantastic way to end the week. Thanks, and have a great weekend!
Karen Love the idea of you asking real time questions, it helps us non-technical people understand the process. And of course, your reactions are always priceless! Remember, the best friend of the camera is, light. Respect Leave Same Or Better, Everything People Before Profit Be Good ☮️🙋
