Not sure if this guy mentioned, but it ALSO has an electric water pump that turns ON when you shut truck off to COOL THE TURBO, countering "heat soak" effect, which makes a HUGE deal in turbo longevity.
Genuinely surprised your channel isn't bigger, you get straight to the point and provide solid info every time 👍
If they would at least have a 6' box length option, I would have tried one.
I would like them to build an SUV version of this like a 4runner
I have that exact truck, a 2023. Trail Boss model sold me…mild factory lift, fits 33’s, simple interior, no intrusive tech. 60,000kms so far, haven’t had a single problem with it yet. Fuel economy could be better but it’s a truck…how good could it really get. Engine doesn’t sound great but the torque is impressive, and accessible at low rpm’s as you said. As a bonus…has the easiest oil change you’ll ever get have to do, filter and drain are right beside each other, don’t even have to move the pan.
The biggest issue (also with the V-8 engines) is the lack of port injection. Ford has added port injection to the I-4 and V-6 EcoBoost engines. The port injection keeps the intake valves clean.
Technically gentlemen… the 2.7L TurboMAX does have the highest “standard equipment” torque figure in the segment 😅 So depending which side of the aisle you fall on, this may either be a half truth or a half lie. Yes, the 2.4L i-Force MAX in the Tacoma is rated at 465 lb-ft of torque from the combined gas engine + electric motor setup, which officially gives it the segment torque crown on paper. BUT in the real world, that peak hybrid torque may only be available in smaller windows or under certain conditions. Meanwhile, the 430 lb-ft from the TurboMAX feels very consistent and very accessible basically all the time.
Waiting for you to do more midsize reviews
I switched from SUVs to a midsize a few months back and settled in the Frontier Pro4x. Could not be happier. Was also considering the Colorado trail boss but it was the simple V6 that did it for me.
Brother i told you about these trucks. I'm glad you dig it too. i have no brand loyalty, but the 3rd gen colorado has impressed me and my crew VERY much!
Do a video on the Nissan Frontier.
Everyone I talk to loves these as personal trucks. Also I talk to fleet owners that use them as work trucks and they seem to be great.
Got one in the fun side Sierra and have to comment. I love this motor. Efficient and plenty of power. Beats the piss out of my old 4.8L.
i got a 25' colorado trail boss with the convenience package new last year for 40k. you can get ones without the package for around 38 if you look hard. i have since put 14k miles on it and took it from san diego up to canada and back down the west coast this year. From 100* deserts to 1 foot of snow on the interstate in montana, the truck handled it all amazingly. Hands down the best looking midsize truck once you take the airdam off. i'd argue its the best value of ANY new vehicle. for reliably 40k you get a truck with v8 torque, 4x4 + rear locker and 23mpg for less than most new rav 4s and 10k less than any tacoma. great video as always!
It's a decent truck. I looked at buying one. But the cost/payment even with my trade in was a bit more than I wanted, especially since I would like going from a full size to mid size. Though my current 2017 is only a V6 and the tow rating is about the same. I'd like a new truck, but the paid off truck I own does the job.
Frontier Sales up 47% year over year last quarter. Plus, there 6k cheaper in US 10k CAN on top trim. But would love to see a review from this guy. Because all the reviews out there come from regular guys who just read Google spec sheets, not full-time mechanics like this guy.
I wanted to love my 23 Z71 so much - the engine tech excited me. After owning it, i did not find it an enjoyable driving experience in regards to the motor.
When I was truck shopping last summer, I took the Ranger and Colorado out for test drives. I ended up with the Colorado Trail Boss because like you, I think the Trail Boss is the best "bang for the buck" mid-size truck out there right now. Particularly if you plan to spend much time on forest/logging roads.
Looks like the same size as what full size trucks used to be!
I own a 2026 with now over 8,000 miles on the clock and this engine never fails to put a smile on my face… v8 power, diesel torque and 4 cylinder economy (when I do my part).
