Mario and Luigi Partners in Time is the most overlooked entry in the Mario & Luigi series, even by Nintendo. Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story got 3DS remakes late in the system's lifespan while Partners in Time was left behind. It's also considered the hardest game in the series by MANY longtime fans, so I decided to give this one a try in hard mode as well! I used a hard mode patch that gives all enemies the same stat buffs as the Challenge Medal from Bowser's Inside Story! All enemies and bosses get a 2.5x attack power increase as well as a 1.5x HP and defense increase. Since Bowser's Inside Story is easier than Partners in Time, this should make this even harder... right? FUN FACT ABOUT YOOB: In the original version of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, an enemy named Fawful Guy has an attack where it is eaten and turned into a discolored Yoshi egg by an off-screen creature, whose roar is identical to Yoob's and the egg's color is identical to the eggs Yoob creates, too. It is unknown if it is really Yoob, but it is implied that it is or possibly a Fawfulized version of Yoob.
Part of why I like this game is the harsh reality of the alien invasion. The Shroobs go around ransacking villages and harming innocent civilians to strengthen their military, all with the ultimate goal of having the Mushroom Kingdom all to themselves. It’s pretty dark for a Mario game, even for RPG standards.
Oh! if you’re looking for a hard mode for paper Mario, there’s that dark star edition that REALLY cranks up the difficulty
Its pretty funny that Bowser didn't even question if Baby Bowser was Jr. and how he got to Thwomp Volcano he just rolled with the impersonation joke
25:41 roughly the same, I'll give the edge to Toadbert because he lost his memory and had to do it on the fly
Fun Fact: In the secret Shroob Fight in Bowser's Inside Story, there is an attack where you see a reticle coming from somewhere off screen and you hear a roar. These two elements are a reference to Sunnycide.
Bowser's inside story has Mario and Luigi specifically mention fighting the shroobs when they were kids, meaning Partners in Time caused a split timeline incident where the baby bros are the ones we see all grown up in Inside Story. That's right, we are following a different Mario and Luigi than the Mario and Luigi in the first 2 games. There is 4 of them now. Yes I've been thinking about this long before this video.
3:11 My personal belief here is that the forces of time itself will do literally everything to stop you from invoking that paradox, including offing you if it needs to.
Subscribe for Superstar Saga streams very soon! 3:35 my personal theory is that the time machine acted as a beacon, chances are, E gadd wouldn't have just sent peach on the first test, he probably spent a lot of time testing the machine, in doing so he accidentally broadcasted the location of earth to the shroobs in the past, it is shown that time travel has physical consequences to world, also peach wanted to go her childhood but there's no reason to assume E gadd didn't try sending stuff even further in the past
Fun fact that Bringle might care about. This is the first time you could fight Kamek in a boss fight. Despite ostensibly being the main antagonist of Yoshi's Island who harasses you in every boss fight and getting the baby yoinked by his goons is one of the games fundamental mechanics, you never actually get to trade blows with him. Best you get is chucking a few eggs while he runs away in one level. Imagine living in a world where it was physically impossible to fight Kamek and kick his shit in. Nowadays you can get in slap fights with him every other Mario game, but when it came out being able to finally get payback in partners in time for everything he put us through in the series was very cathartic.
9:07 they should’ve remade partners in time with a minions mode where you see what’s going on in the modern time places while the bros are busy at the castle
I always find it weird for the harder game argument because you have attacks that deal infinite damage in a single turn. Now I don’t expect people to do that, but getting 200-300 a turn isn’t a crazy ordeal compared to multi bounce getting to one frame in only a few jumps
Peak is finally here ❤
17:19 me too, i remenber not wanting to go to outside with my family fearing getting eaten by Yoob 😭
i love partners in time so much, it was my first nintendo game but besides nostalgic it just is a good game
God I loved this game so much as a kid
I FRIKING LOVE THIS GAME I WILL DEFEND HIM TO THE DEATH
PiT being the underrated one is crazy. I remember back when it was the most popular one that everyone talked about.
Honestly I feel like 2 things that could have fixed the logic of the time travel paradox is that The shroobs find the mushroom kingdom because of them noticing E-gadds time machine messing with space or something there; A butterfly effect doesn't hit our present NPCs because the shroob going into the future htrough the machine and the resulting battle causes time to "Glitch" in the castle causing it to be stuck in a time bubble (Bowser himself being caught in between it due to him scheduling his weekly kidnapping attempt just as peach leaves and the shroob returns from the past)
