Her oldest is about 5 and has been asking questions about dad nonstop . She says it takes a lot of determination not to burst into tears every time she has to talk about the love of her life 😢

I read the book, it's called Lessons in Chemistry, I decided to procrastinate my work and write this out instead, if anyone wants to know the plot (btw it was kinda a while ago that I read it so sry if smth is wrong or I missed smth) The lady who's the mom w blonde hair is Elizabeth Zott (calling her EZ for short) the lady that she calls at the begining is her neighbor Harriet Sloane (HS for short) the kid is Mad Zott (her nickname is maddie but her legal name is accually Mad) (abv. MZ or Mad) the guy that you see (I forgot his name so I'm calling him TV guy) the dog is called 6:30(yea real name) and one final character that's pretty important is Calvin(C for short) Ok so, the start: setting 1950s gender inequality is rlly big throughout this book, so keep that in mind TW btw for rape EZ is a chemist working at a place called H Institute (forgot the name), she does most of the work for her male colleagues, but doesn't get any credit, (she also didn't finish her masters bc her professor or smth raped her and told her to keep quiet or she couldn't get her degree, she stabbed him w a pencil and left), she doesn't get equal pay and isn't treated fairly at all, by anyone. Enter C, they meet bc she needs graduated cylinders or beakers or smth, she goes to his lab for them, he mistakes her for a guest or a sectretary or smth but they become friends eventually. Background on C: he's a very well-known scientist, and not sexist, but doesn't understand the full pressure/abuse/oppression women are under. Soon, they fall in love and she cooks lunch for both of them and her cooking is rlly good bc she's a chemist and they research stuff all the time together. Their relationship gets a lot of hate at work though, bc 1, no one will ever treat EZ fairly there, and 2, ppl think C is being held back and 3, they don't have a traditional relationship in anyway, they live together but aren't married ect. They face it together though and he proposes, she says no, bc she doesn't want to lose her career bc of taking his name (bc everyone will think the work is his bc gender inequality and bc he's so famous). They find a stray dog, EZ brings him home, C asks what his name is, EZ thought he was asking for the time and says 6:30, and that becomes his name. They take up rowing and are having a pretty good life until.... C and 6:30 are on a walk(EZ insisted on using a leash bc ppl were mad at them for not using one, despite 6:30 not needing one) TW: little bit of a gory description coming. On the walk smth happens w the leash and C skull is run over by a car and he dies. EZ blames herself a lot (bc she was the one who insisted on the leash), and she goes to his funeral, she gets an artical published abt her (bc she wasn't crying and ppl think she's a gold digger). Then she finds out she's pregnant, during pregnancy, she rows a LOT, and turns her kitchen into her own lab, (btw I forgot to mention that she is trying to teach the dog to speak english and if u read the book there are some parts where the dog is narrating and he's rlly concerned for her health, and is also rlly smart but jst doesn't speak english lol), ok so she goes back to work, she is treated much worse, and now C can't defend her. She gets fired (I think for needing time off for maternity leave or smth or she might have quit I don't remember). Anyways, she contines her work in her kitchen lab and edits her old colleagues' papers for money (she still isn't treated well and doesn't get any credit). Her kid is born and they don't respect her birth requests (she doesn't want to have an epidural or anesthesia or smth and they don't follow her rules). The nurse asks what she wants to name her baby girl and she thinks the nurse is asking how she's feeling, she says Mad, and that goes on her birth certificate. HS hears the baby crying rlly late at night one time and asks EZ if she needs help, she declines, but later calls her for help. Her OBGYN (i think) also helps (btw he rows too, and was friends w C, and has pretty similar standpoints on women and that they should be treated equally). She goes back to H Institute for her research (by now she has gone back to research and is trying to publish), they refuse to give her research back (or C's under the "reason" that they weren't married). I think she goes back to work there for a little bit (not the same job and not good pay), at some point, she confronts the secretary, Ms. Frask(abv Ms. F). Ms. F was always mean to EZ and sees her bc she jst got fired (I think for being pregnant or gaining weight or smth ridiculous like that). They yell at each other and Ms. F reveals that she was also SA'd and that also stopped her from getting her master's. They kinda make up and leave on good terms, but not before Ms. F gives EZ access to EZ and C's research. She finds out that her boss had been plagiarizing their work and also her colleagues, I think, so she quits. Ok so there are a bunch of parts where it flashes back to things, (I think t

Lol. I cannot count the number of times I've fed my kid's friends. Their parents are not even aware and treat me like thin air when we meet in a school or social setting. Lack of nutrient rich food is a real problem no one even talks about. Two of my kid's bus mates pounce on food leftover in my kid's lunch box and they relish it because they 'seldom' get homemade food.
