Hitting a child who already knows what they did is wrong is abuse. If the child has already taken accountability and accepted they are wrong and apologizes you’re simply hitting them because you want to .

Don is right for not hitting him, but he did NOT at all respect his wife even a little bit by letting that child disrespect her. Betty was right to be upset about it.

He should’ve made him go apologize to mom for lying to her face and breaking the tv, owning up to a problem doesn’t solve it.

His wife had no idea about his abusive childhood. I think people who live in loving stable families approach discipline differently. Plus the wife was projecting her unhappiness on her cheating husband on to her kids. It's sad but it does happen in real life. Whats me wonder how many of us transfer our problems with our spouse/ job/ other issues onto our kids? 😢

I bought my anxiety son a guitar for christmas he played everyday. He didnt do his homework and his mom took guitar away. 15 years have gone by he NEVER played it again.

The problem isn’t that he accidentally broke the stereo or he accidentally hit his sister with the robot. The problem was ignoring his mother’s instruction to stop playing with the robot (and probably whatever he was doing before he broke the stereo) and lying after. THAT’S when a parent needed to step in and be firm.

Completely ignoring your kids bad behavior ruins it just as much as abusing it.

My father and his siblings were beaten until they were blue and green😢 but he never hit me once😊❤i love him so much ❤

My father physically, mentally and emotionally abused me since I was 4. I fantasized about the same thing but never did. He died a year or so ago of liver disease. Have never shed a single tear. Never wanted kids nor had kids because I know I also have anger issues probably as a result of my trauma at least partially (also could be partially genetic) so my reaction will end up with the same results. I won't do that. This dad right here is a REAL MAN. 😊

Well..most people would probably be less aggressive and violent and more mentally healthy and empathetic if they didn't get hit as kids and studies prove hitting kids is a terrible way to discipline them...I wasnt just hit I was beaten and abused and it caused me issues I'm still working through into my 30's...people who hit kids are weak and lazy and if you get offended then good because you're EXACTLY who I'm referring to

People keep telling me there’s a difference between spanking and beating but I don’t think we should hit anyone especially the kids

The goal is to teach your kid. A lesson is to be learned when they do something wrong. Hitting them puts more light on the beating and less on what they did wrong and how to fix or change it. Are you gonna remember what you did when your more emotionally fueled by the actions and reactions of the parent that beat you. They did something stupid like spill or broke something. Spill dont get pissed hand them wipes to clean it or towel. They broke something help them clean it up or fix it. Now the difference is getting furious at the first mistake. When it gets out of hand then handle it. But while they are young associate their mistakes with help and showing then teaching them how to fix it.

Ironic then, that the actor was himself a bully.

This show takes place in a different time period where this was more normalized. I think people forget that and talk about the goals of today, this is played out well for the time its being played in.

My grandfather once won a medal at state as a Baritone Vocalist. When he got home, his father hit him because he thought it was embarrassing to hear about. He never laid a hand on my dad or his brothers. Breaking that cycle can take as long as a century for everything to finally be normal again.
