Not gentle parenting. Permissive parenting. Gentle parenting is mostly just normal parenting, its just that some people think normal parenting consists of beating up your kids, so we have to call it gentle parenting.

Gentle parenting being portrayed like this in media will never cease to make me angry 😭😭 this is literally permissive parenting by giving your kid ALL the control and not parenting.

That’s permissive parenting. Gentle parenting would be “do you want a hug from mum or from dad while the doctor gives you the jab?” or “do you want to see the jab or do you want to look at mum’s phone on YouTube?” Whether to have the jab at all isn’t a choice, but how to feel safe during the jab is a choice.

Tv writers really just heard gentle parenting was a thing and decided they hated it without once asking what it was 😂

I would go into explicit detail of what happens when you get infected from rust. I think after telling a kid how their jaw would be locked up so tight they couldn't even eat anymore miiiiight do the trick. It's how my grandpa explained it to me when I was a kid 😂😂😂

People just don't understand what gentle parenting is. It is about setting healthy boundaries too, the child can't just do what it wants. Parents have to make decisions to keep their children save, vaccines for example are important.

You could altso just tell the parents “make him have the shot, or he would die”

How actual gentle/authoritative parenting would handle this: “I wonder if you’re feeling a bit scared of the needle going in because it might hurt? Yeah? Yeah, you’re right, the needle probably will hurt a bit when it goes in. I can understand being scared of that, I don’t like pain either and I get scared of it sometimes too. (NAME AND VALIDATE THE FEELING.) The scrape you got might have got some really bad germs inside, the kind of germs that will cause a lot more hurt for your body than the needle. That’s why the doctor wants to give you this special medicine - it’s really cool because it actually stops the germs before they can even get started trying to hurt you. (GIVE CONTEXT TO HELP EXPLAIN WHAT’S HAPPENING.) I know you can be so super brave, because you were so super brave [insert recent incident here], remember? (GIVE CONCRETE EXAMPLE TO BUILD CONFIDENCE IN THEIR OWN RESILIENCE.) The doctor is going to give you the medicine now, do you want to squeeze Mom’s hand or Dad’s hand when the needle goes in? (OFFER A FAKE CHOICE TO MAKE THE KID FEEL THEY HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF CONTROL OVER THE SITUATION, WHILST STILL HOLDING THE LINE EITHER WAY.) Dad? Okay, good choice. Okay, let’s do it, squeeze really hard and it will be all over in 5, 4, 3, 2 - hey, he’s already done, and you were so super brave! Wow! Great job buddy!” Doc chimes in with a high five and a sticker and boom, you’re done in under 60 seconds. Gentle parenting just means treating kids with respect. Doctors often have to take a moment to answer questions or reassure adults, because that’s what informed consent is. So why do we not think kids are worthy of the same respect?

Yes let's vilify gentle parenting by showing it in a way that doesn't at all represent what it actually is

They aren't gentle, they're incompetent. Just like all the writers who want to demonize all forms of parenting that don't beat a child

I got held down by my dad while my mom forced my eyes open to get a squeeze of the eye drops I needed in. It was traumatizing and also the only reason I'm not blind, so props to my parents.
