What's more cooked is these long YouTube videos. The AI ask button summarises everything before the first and is over.

Hey there. Been in the IT industry since 2003. I'm 46. I am not a developer, but work within the field of IT infrastructure, security and some Azure. You are right. All these wild dreams big tech and the American tech oligarchs surely has is a lot of marketing bullshit. There is not enough electricity in the world to fulfill these ambitions. In an IBM training manual from 1979: "A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision.”

Yes, I can confirm from experience. I was laid off from a startup recently. They couldn't hit their sales targets for two quarters in a row, and knew they wouldn't be able to receive additional funding to continue running the business. They were betting very big on AI, and it seems like they are benefiting from it. Their solution to continue running was to lay off the sales, marketing, and Customer success department to reduce costs, and announced that they can do all of that using AI. In reality, it was just an excuse; they didn't have enough money to pay everyone's salary anymore. They transitioned all the software engineers the following week to a customer-facing role, "Support and Platform engineers" is what they called it. 50 percent of the engineers quit that same day, and all of the AI engineers. Anyone who heard the story and all of us laid off were told that it's due to AI. But it's simply a cover for the company f'ing up. They don't want to announce that publicly to not scare their customers and potential investors away.

Over-hiring from the Covid ear is definitely one of the reasons, but we can's sit and deny that AI is not a problem at all, because it is. We shouldn't be in denial but face the reality and keep growing

We developers need to learn one thing. Unionize. Earn our rights through this. Who said that if AI make companies, for example, 50% more efficients, they can fire up to 50% of their labour? Why cannot we work up to 50% less? Its a politic issue and we are losing it

Not exactly true. During my most recent gig the company basically mandated the usage of Claude Code and later on they extended it to Codex. Developers use Claude to "write" code and Codex to "test" it. Many companies that I've interviewed with moved to this "AI"-first approach. This takes resources and resources are not infinite. Once they are funneled to "AI", they obviously are gone and cannot be allocated to something else such as hiring. Plus, the economy is not exactly the best. Are there good news for engineers. Yes. This "AI" insanity will end... just not right away. I have never used any of these "tools." I write my own code, tests, documentation, and infrastructure. My biggest recommendation is not to use these LLMs for anything.

I’ve spoke a friend in a big tech that he use ai to generate the code and modify it. He only write 30% of code nowadays. He say the glory day is over. Is ai gonna completely replace you? No, but it needs fewer ppl to do the job. Llm or ai has been largely solved web dev.

And it just happens, coincidentally that all these layoffs are coinciding with the releases of agenetic AI? The pandemic was over like three years ago. The AI may be fancy auto complete, but I tell you, you can write a long segment of code based on what I tell what I want in plain English and the code is right almost every single time. And when it’s not right, I can tell it’s not right about it and it fixes it and it is right. How that could have no measurable impact upon any Tech organization or Tech division I can’t even imagine.

Don't worry the tech layoffs will free up talented people to create a pool of talent which will spawn competitors to the existing tech companies. They are making their own competitors and shooting themselves in the foot.
