Youngest old man of all time. Love him.
McEnroe was a genius when he played, absolutely loved watching him play.
This one point by mcenroe is more interesting to watch than 99.9% of the points in tennis today. Pure artistry
Back then he was a legendary Tennis Pro because he was young and capable especially at the US Open Tennis Tournament.
My favourite tennis player of all time
I love seeing early footage of young John McEnroe
So unbelievable!!
Respect and admire John always.
Mein Lieblingsspieler in meiner Kindheit und natΓΌrlich Boris Becker
In 1984, i just knew McEnroe would go on to be considered the GOAT. He never won another major after that year.
Definitely a different game playing at the net
When he started to come up and he was faster than Borg we knew he was going to beat him eventually and he did !
Did the apocalypse start when Mcenroe came along? Lol. Chaos, talent and electricity all bundled up in a tight space. Genius and ultra catharsis, even to the level that the amount of heart he gave the game can often be under appreciated. His behavior wasn't the best, which made people interested in tennis, just to see what would happen next with McEnroe, actually a genius, on-court artist. Did John Mcenroe become the most famed player ever?, at least before the Federer era generation??? I would not be surprised. Many people wish he was young again and on your. Time flies, now he is almost in his late 60's, and still a heck of a player.
Great hands as always, by McEnroe. That first volley looked like it was "not up." Nobody argued, so I'm sure it was. But that looked weird.
Serve like 70 mph, and love the towel hanging off opponents hip
Thats what tennis has been Missing these days
I remember the match..back at Wimbledon, when he was 18, and almost beat Connors, in the semi
There is no player who has 1% of Macβs talent. Todays rackets and strings allow for the most un athletic of people to hit with power and spin. Todays strings actually keep the ball in play. If a top HS college or ATP player had to use a wooden racket with all gut strings and against Mac using the same and st the same age, Mac would wipe them all out. 6-0 6-0 for HSβers. 6-1 6-1 for college and 6-2 6-1 for pros. Todays pros would not even be pros if they played in 1980. They would be wiped out. They have to stand on the baseline or behind it and use the amateur 2hbh. They would not know what to do when they would be forced to the net on every play.
Most players would have turned around after hitting that half volley .
