A near 38 year old player beating a top 3 ranked 21 year old player in a slam (That too in just four sets carrying an injury is even more impressive). The last few times this happened 9th ranked, 36 year old Laver lost to 5th seed, 19 year old Borg in just four sets at 1975 US open 4th round. In 1974 Wimbledon, 3rd seed, 22 year old Connors ousted 38 year old Rosewall in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4 & again at US open, 23 year old Connors wiped the floor with 38 year old, 5th seed , Ken Rosewall, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1; both in finals. Again in 1989 US open, 13th seed, 37 year old Connors lost to 6th seed, 19 year old Agsssi in five sets in quarter finals.
