You've reached the end
Crazy take. The fact that tennis players are independent contractors makes the problem worse because theyβre not guaranteed salaries. Therefore, larger portion of the revenue share from slams makes an even bigger difference. Also, important to note that theyβre NOT asking for 50% of the revenue, but much less than that (something like 22% if I recall).
Thank god for Andy roddick podcast, talk so much sense!
I mean I'm obviously missing context but just based off this using Alcaraz and Sinner as examples of the Slam vs tour share is a little weird. They make it deep in most slams they play in. This is also about players who don't go that deep but still deserve to be able to make a livable amount, be able to pay their team, and bear the expenses of their career.
Top players do not complain about their earnings. The problem is the rest. Tournaments must share more with the lower-ranked players.
"Golfers never ask for more"...after the LIV civil war? Petchey is just a mouthpiece
I cannot believe only 19 players made over a million last year that is insane
Yes, letβs take the example of the highest paid tennis player π How about the rest?
the top players demanding more money is a slap in the face to the players outside the top 100 struggling just to make a living. π€·π»ββοΈ
Instead of hard numbers, they should keep the conversation more at percentages.
The golfers are happy? Then what was the whole Liv tour about?
The rich (tournament organizers atp wta) get richer, the poor (players) get poorer. Always has been. Always will be until there are strikes, boycotts. Want more money and more time off to rest and recover? First, get organized and know exactly what you're asking for. What you want and what you need. Develop a plan that can work and be ready to stick to it. Then stop all work (playing tennis) until you get it.
Biased. Are you taking money from tennis directors?
The actual issue is that the overall revenue of the French Open went up but by a few percent but the revenue share of the players in % went down somehow. What needs to be investigated in general is how the revenue/profit generated is shared/invested. If the tournament is for example planning to build a few new courts/stands etc., a downyear in paying the players is expected.
They need 22% give them
The question is would top players take less prize money if it were distributed down the rounds of each major. It's time to lift all boats, not just the yachts at the top. To be clear, this shouldn't be punitive to the winners. Winning 7 matches warrants a big payout. But I think the champs would be okay with a little less in the champions' check, knowing the journeymen are making more money.
petkovic (spelling?) is a great tennis analyst.
The 150th ATP ranked player in the world is making just under 1 million USD per year. I think that seems somewhat fair.
The problem is in growing the sport. When you have a major international sport where only the top 80 players in the world can make a living, it limits the growth of the sport.
The best example for this subject is boxers. They get paid a FORTUNE as they are the draw. In the same way that Sinner and Carlos are in tennis.Take out the top tennis players and nobody would watch.
Who's that clown?
