It seems like Google killed their search with this feature, as the old Google Search we all knew and loved is now dead. Google is using Gemini 3.5 Flash for this update. It's not about convenience. It's about control over information. You give a question, AI gives you only one answer, the mainstream one.
"2.5 billion people use the ai overview feature". Because it's shoved in all our faces at the top of every search page before we can even see the links. Not all users are willing users when it's forced on everyone. (Edit: Accidentally missed the "billion" in the original comment. Edited to fix that error.)

As a programmer, I'd rather type out mere terms and get my results that way, rather than having to talk to some dude for the same information.
*Why can't Google just bloody listen* to us!!? The majority *hated* their ideas to implement more AI into their products. Google is *SUPPOSED TO have searches,* and *not a bloody AI chat bot.*
Now’s the time to boycott Google, switch to Proton and find any other alternative that you can.
