Shareholders demand more blood be drawn from stones. Not for lack of blood, but desire for more.
sacrificing the long term so that shareholders can get short term profits seems to be the theme for this decade

"Console sales are down. Increase the price!" *Console sales drop even harder*
The golden age of gaming is over and large game companies killed it.
Gaming should shrink, we have too many studios producing 100-million slop. Let them die out so a healthier market can grow from it. Preferably one that understands that not everyone has a top of the line computer less than a year old to run their game, and start optimising their games like they used to do. Preferably one that understands not to make everything a rent-only live-service early access game that isn't that good.

They (all these companies) raise prices due to "market conditions" yet end of next fiscal year they'll be reporting record profits yet again... like, go away please.
“Changing market conditions” is such a nothing burger phrase. It’s just the PR way of saying “justifying corporate greed”.
Price increase on the Base Switch is crazy, that thing is nearing 10 years old...
Everyone says they’re going to stop buying consoles for higher prices yet they keep raising prices and keep selling consoles.
Videogame Industry: "Due to ongoing market conditions, we're increasing prices". Gamers: "Due to ongoing market conditions, we're keeping our money".
Investor/stock first mentality is ruining everything
Meanwhile people are struggling to pay for basic necessities. These gaming companies seem to be suicidal.
You know, all they’d have to do is make basic online play free and lower the prices for console subscriptions (and up the number of sales that come WITH those), and they can more than double their sales through sheer volume of extra players and freed up money.
