Yes buy the furniture a little bit at a time since you have the basics and can make it livable with what you have. It’s interesting to me that your apartment management didn’t have to disclose that a smoker lived in that unit before. At my apartment complex they have it in the lease that the buildings and units are non smoking environments and as a resident you can get a fine if caught smoking indoors or to close to each building in the complex.
I had that issue with the people that lived across the hall from me.. their cigarette smoke smells were coming in from under the sink and cabinets... what worked for me is to boil some fabulouso in water.. do it every day for a few days.. leave all cabinets and draws open cause I guarantee you it's soaked in.. 🙂
Use vinegar to mop your walls to get rid of the cigarettes smell. Use vinegar on everything! I know the struggle. 😭😭

On the lamps, I would get a different solid color shade, then for lamps in bedroom use the blue lamp shades on a solid lamp color. Love the apartment, let management know about the smell. Cigarette smells are hard to cover. Especially for non smokers. I’d smell it all the time. Congratulations on your move❤❤
