As a young Black RN living in ATLANTA, GA I completely understand this passive aggressive racism in healthcare. Especially the tech story I’ve had plenty of Caucasian techs that would even try to overstep into my role as an RN. I’ve also had the same questions you mentioned asked to me ( what school did you go to, what do your parents do, even asking if I have kids 😒)

i think the “mean” narrative is generated from a place of jealousy from people who notices that you articulate yourself well & you’re going to stand your ground and speak up for yourself.

Yeah Nurse Brat I feel you 100% bro. What really get me is this happened to me a few times too no shade to CNAs at all, but families be automatically assuming I’m a CNA right off the rip. I’ve got that so many times. Like they already made up their mind before I even say anything. I agree with you for real… they act like we not capable or don’t got the knowledge. But then soon as they find out I’m actually their mom or dad’s nurse, it’s like they shocked or something. Like yeah… excuse me, I’m HER. Thank yaaa 🤷🏽♀️
This happens to me all the time!!! As a black RN, I am always asked about my training, how long have I been an RN and if I am an RN or an LPN. I was even asked if I was an occupational therapist by a family and I had been with the pt ALL DAY giving meds LMAO. I just answer because at this point I'm so used to it. It doesn't change my pay check and I don't have the energy to even care anymore. It's sad but this is AMERIKKKA. And I absolutely love you and your channel <3
The problem with the “mean girl” labeling is due to people expecting you to be all in their face trying to be their friend, or they mad because they share all they personal business at work and you choose not to, like if we end up connecting as friends cool but I did not apply to this job to be your friend. Yes I will help you with your assignment if needed but I’m going right back in my corner and focusing on my patients, not gossiping with you about our other coworkers…

I agree completely with the micro aggression. I had a nurse tell me that my personality is FLAT like Ms you don’t even know me you just give me report time to time and I’m PRN lol one day asked me what are you taking because whatever it is I need it 🙃 like excuse me???? Because I’m calm and you’re always flustered and a mess. I’m one of the most bubbly goofiest ppl you’ll meet. Like I don’t need to be your friend and share things about my personal life. And yes it’s always who’s the nurse and are you an LPN.
40 yo …been and RN since I was 20 yo. Always gets asked how long I’ve been a nurse I say 20 years and they are shocked! then some ask if I am a RN or LPN when ALL the RNs wear the same color is crazy ! 😂 the smart confident black nurses are always “intimidating”
