You've reached the end
They were like that due to being literal product placements 🙄
This is especially egregious during the final transformation shot of Bee in DOTM. He drives up pristine as hell does a slow transformation and suddenly his paint is dirty and all chipped! I've always hated that lack of continuity.
His effects team did a good job making the CGI compare to the modern movies we have these days
It doesn't matter honestly. Their alt modes are different realities. I love the duality
This was obviously for product placement, but the weird thing is that it was mostly for vehicles that you couldn't actually buy. Bumblebee was a concept car for a Camaro that didn't go into production until 2009, Ironhide was a custom consumer trim version of a heavy-duty commercial truck, Ratchet was a Hummer ambulance created for the movie, Optimus was such a heavily modified truck that it might as well not be based on any specific model, Barricade would be illegal to drive, and the other Decepticons were literal military hardware. The only car from that movie that you could actually buy was Jazz's Pontiac Solstice. I'm sure General Motors and Ford put a lot of money into showcasing their vehicles, but it's bizarre that only one of them was something that you can actually buy.
To anyone wondering: the more reflective a surface is, the longer is takes to render because the more light it reflects. The computer has to calculate how the light will bounce off and also render the reflections.
The first 3 movies looked photorealistic with the reflections. Then after that they lost their reflectiveness and became standard Cgi mushy.
I always seen it as like camo tech when they are vehicles. In car mode they look shiny and off the floor, while in robot mode, the cloak goes away to reveal all the dirt, grime, scratches, dents, etc.
I still can’t think how many computers have to sacrifice for this iconic franchise
I always noticed this as a kid! I figured it was for convincing cgi😂
knockout would have loved to be on that set
The more I see it now I just think of it as cars have like oil and grime and a whole bunch of that stuff within the car parts so when the Transformers are transforming that gets everywhere
Wow i never noticed. Thnxx 🤯
It's probably the moving of multiple parts that made them dirty in the first place
I always just believed Cybertronian biology just allows the to "heal/repair" their chassis whenever they wish. I guess seeing a damaged vehicle mode draws more attention around humans but doesn't help when majority of the Autobots r super expensive and exotic sports cars, super cars, brightly coloured etc. And then the decepticons r just militarized, Cybertronian custom, and completely out of place around human urban areas
My head canon is when they go from car to robot form, some parts scratch against each other. Robot to car though? Idk
I never noticed that. 😅
*a Polar Bear can't even scratch a Walrus* A Hippo is basically on Walrus on roids 💉 onto the next fight... 😪
And when they transform back into cars, it’s clean again 😂
Some key words here are exactly why old cgi movies like Pacific Rim and Transformers get the highest praise for it’s visual effects
