Good morning, folks. The van build keeps moving forward and one of the upgrades I really wanted was air conditioning that actually works for life on the road. In this video I install the Velit 2000U built in AC system into my off grid van setup and walk through the entire process from venting and ducting to wiring it into my power system. One of the biggest challenges with this build was finding an air conditioner that did not require roof space. With everything already mounted up top, I needed a solution that could fit inside the van while still keeping the living space comfortable during hot weather. Most importantly, I wanted something that would help keep Ben cool during the summer months when temperatures start climbing. I also show how I fabricated a custom aluminum vent plate, routed the ducting through the van, connected the system to my Comvolt power setup, and tested everything on the road during a trip down to Overland Expo in Flagstaff. So far the system has been working extremely well and it has already made a huge difference while traveling and camping in warmer weather. Thanks for watching and for all the support. Hey Jason, Jason here. Can you tell me in your experience how much power the AC unit draws when running?
Where is the drain for the condensation?
I’m sure that Velit has this all figured out but it’s interesting to me that the exhaust vent and intake are next to each other. Seems like warmer than ambient air would be drawn in. I like the idea and theory of the inside unit. Certainly allows for an AC without giving up roof space. Looking forward to your video after you’ve used it a while.
Interesting update. Great explanations too. As I see the side of van vent, I have a couple of questions... The fins seem to almost open where road dust and sand in the wind, maybe some rain and snow can blow past the fins. I can see where maybe a cover, much like over the stove etc. but larger, .. a cover for the whole thing that sticks about an inch above or away from the vent can/might work for better protection. That said, ... during the cold winter etc. you won't be running the air conditioner... but maybe a magnetic or flat external cover to even keep outside cold air from coming in... not to mention possible smoke from a camp fire. I can't wait to see how things go at the shop and also if you might have video while in AZ. ... Drive safe. (pat, southern oregon coast region).

I replaced our 110 volt Coleman Mach with a 12 volt Dometi RTX 2000 over our bed. It uses 20 amps to cool our sleeping area in the warmest conditions. We use fans to send cooler air to the front where we sit but it is only 6,000 BTU. It is silent and it’s easy to sleep under and it works for our dog when we leave him in our Promaster. I bought the same one for my truck camper build. I had to 3D print the exhaust and intake because the 6'' pipes were not long enough to reach trough the 2'' wall. While I was at it, I printed a cover to go over these grills. So when I'm not using the AC no bugs or weather can come in. The thing that I will do diffrent than you is angle the louvers so they don't recirculate the exhaust and intake air. Basicly they will be back to back. I'm happy to hear that you like it. Can't wait to install mine.

That's pretty 'cool'! When I first got my canopy, I installed a shore power plug which required me to cut a hole in the wall. That made me very nervous. I can imagine how cutting a large hole like you did would feel. I'm glad it all worked!

That's cool, but is the exhaust from the van going to be drawn into the intake if you need to run the vehicle to power the system in a low battery situation?
In the same situation as you.....considering a mini split, undermount or rooftop. Will be interested in hearing your 6 month review. Unfortunately I haven't seen great reviews for this unit. I am also considering using a comvolt unit....LOVE IT!!!!! I sincerely hope it works awesome for you and your pup!!!!!
It will be interesting to see how it cools in your van when the temps reach 90's + some reviews say it only cools 10° below outside temps.
How is the noise level? I installed a 12v mini split. The outside noise is fairly substantial. I have considered replacing it with one of these.
Very interested to see how you like the AC. We went with the rooftop Velit and Comvolt 6000 for our Sprinter. We considered the indoor Velit unit
