I built a BEACH HOUSE in The Sims based on a *REAL* floorplan

I suspect the "Landlubber" floor is for people who build the house on a plot of land that isn't on a beach (or floodplain). It looks like a basement. It's actually a pretty cute naming idea.

It always amazes me how a small IRL house becomes giant sized in Sims. I recreated my gma's small house and it was huge in Sims

Our thermostat is downstairs, most houses I've lived in either have it in the downstairs hallway or somewhere near the front door

The thermostat in all the houses I've lived in, were in the livingroom, usually on a corner near the door to the hallway

This is the most common beach house design used on the little islands along the Gulf Coast in Texas. Basically, the "landlubber" portion keeps the main "living" part of the beach house above surge levels during hurricanes, and usually the area under the house (never seen in called "landlubber" on a blue print before) includes some storage, a shower specifically for rinsing after the beach (keep from tracking sand into the main house), and, well, parking. It's essentially an extremely open garage to reduce the cost of hurricane-related damage on a home. People often grill down there too. It's almost always paved as an actual foundation. If I were going to make one in TS4, I'd make a one-step slab foundation, put columns on that, then build it as 3 floors instead of two, if that makes sense? Anyway, all of that is to say, is that the "landlubber" area, in the beach houses I grew up in every summer, was additional living space.

I've never had a central thermostat, just a radiator in every room (except the hallway and kitchen), but I think that's quite common in the nordics, since we like keeping the heat in and the cold out, and then in summer we just cry.

Love this idea of following floorplans but I often find that Simmers place the staircase is backwards. I'm not sure why. I'm so happy you've raised so much for St. Jude!!!!!

omg THE STAIRCASE INSIDE IS BACKWARDS!! I can't, I can't, I can't! In the original plan they also had the closet there so they were utilising the space under the stairs. The door should have been 1 tile and you could have even made the bedrooms downstairs 3 tiles wide (you would have had 3 columns outside then). And seeing the rendering for the first time I thought for sure it's a Sulani built. But it WASN'T?!! why? the lot was clearly too small, if you couldn't fit the stairs in the front

To get the stilts to line up with the porch columns, you can forgo using a foundation at all and just place your own columns on the ground floor and have the main floor be level 2.
