Blobfish are only ugly because their tissue has exploded on land. The reason for this is that blobfish have little muscle, and use their own pressure in crushing depths underwater to move around. When taken to the surface, the intense pressure change destroys their body and tissues, causing them to deform into their “blob” shape.
