The F1 world was gripped this weekend watching Max Verstappen come agonisingly close to winning the iconic 24 hour race in Nurburgring. Did Max's daring overtakes at "The Green Hell" show why he's the best out there? How will he recover in time for the Canadian Grand Prix in a few days? Will other F1 drivers follow suit and should they be encouraged to? And later we debate - what was the biggest scandal in F1 history? Was it Lewis Hamilton losing out to Max Verstappen at the 2021 finale? Or does the cheating in the 80s trump that? The N24 commentators were so good and positive - no divisiveness, No biased bullshit - Sky F1 can learn alot.
I watched nurburgring for the first time thanx to Max and I can say that it's more interesting to me than today's F1 races.
Why no mention of Max’s night time driving, that was crazy insane
I'm an old git who's been watching motor racing since the 70's, I watched all of Max's onboards over the weekend and he is driving on such a high level at the minute it's amazing to watch.
I watched the night stint of Max battling Engel with all the lesser racecars in between. It doesn't get any better then that. Just seeing the breaking lights and not even seeing the track. Epic
If you are an F1 driver and you do not show you've got the skills in other series, I think it would not be good for the image. Also consider this: Max didn't just step in, race, and called it a day. It took setting up a whole team, becoming one of the guys and a year of preparation. He took it seriously. Not to prove himself, but to enjoy it. I don't think the drivers of other series appreciate it much if the entire grid showed up to "prove" something and turn it into a pony show for the sake of "look at how good I am". That is the difference. Racing in another series for the love of it. Not to prove they are better than the rest,
I’m happy to be alive to witness this happening. People, please enjoy the greatness of this young kid.
DC is one of my favorites. Just like Verstappen . No bullshitting but ever the Scottish gentleman.
Like the N24 commentators said respectfully before the race, Max had all to lose and nothing to win there. That reason alone would make most F1 drivers not dare to drive there, regardless of how insanely difficult the drive is. Even now the Max haters are blaming him for the car failure. Thats why I respect Max so much, he doesn't get affected by others and does his thing.
How about Max small trip to Fuji Raceway during Japan GP weekend, beating curent Japan master, in his own car, in the wet, by 2 second after 4 laps, in a car he never been driving before..
Max was stunning at Nurburgring....watched 20 hours and only the onboard live stream of Max's car..... his style od driving totally different than his team mates......on the edge but with well calculated risks......even the best GT3 drivers like Kevin Estre and Maro Engel were highly impressed.....Max is the absolute GOAT in Motorsport!
No celebrities, partying fans, 160 cars, it’s Liberty that made F1 to commercial without historical awareness.
I wanna add to Will's remarks about AD'21. Lewis cut the track and was never punished for that. Apart from that he should have been given a 10 place grid penalty. For the 3rd time that year he impeded another driver (Mazepin) during a fast lap. A week before he got the 2nd warning for the same incident so he really played with fire! Anyway, Masi didn't want to interfere with the championship, so he turned a blind eye. Too bad that the Cult44 community are blind for these facts and only remembers the SC situation ... where Masi handled the situation completely legal btw! Onfortunate? Yes and I understand the pain on Lewis'side, but Masi had the full right to handle the way he saw as best. PS: For the English fans. Worldcup final, Wembley '66. Was that ball really on the line?? English 'tongue in cheek' memories are still lies. In 60 years time you still have an 'alternate' version of facts 🤔
When it comes to other F1 drivers doing things like the N24, I think it's easy for them to say 'oh I'd love to do that as well (but I'm not allowed)'. It's easy to give of the image that you're a pure racer like that when you have an excuse in hand to not have to prove it. It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there like Max has and a whole lot of dedication to do that besides an already busy F1 schedule. I don't think many of them have that in them. As for the N24 itself, I loved it. So much fun to spend an entire day following one race. Max's stints were incredible. What impressed me the most was how he was able to battle a GT3 veteran like Engel in a car that is not his speciality, during a night stint that he's never done irl before, on one of the most difficult tracks in the world. And beat him. Incredible. It was frightening to watch tbh. And how cool that it's his own team that's fighting up there in the big leagues. I love how his GT3 team is not just some side hustle that he sticks his name on. It's something that he invests so much time and effort in and it's certainly paying off. Proud to be this guy's fan. Gutted that he couldn't take the win home, but excited at the prospect of seeing him try again next year.
There is no debate about AD21 from anyone these days except from the LH44 cult. People know that the things that went against max in the season, some of which were caused by lewis (i.e silverstone) just balanced out in the end. The only ones feeling hard done by were lewis himself and his fan cult. No one else really cares about it today, its so far in the past already.
Not one other driver on the grid would be able to just jump in a car and immediately be contending for the win at the Nurburgring. Max is just a different racing calibre altogether. It is epic watching him behind the wheel of any car
You can hate Max but facts are that he is fast in anything he drives. F1 24h Nürburgring Fuji Speedway GT500 Just my 2 cents
I was never big into racing before. A few years back I started watching F1 after seeing some videos appear in my feed. Nothing crazy, but I watched a few races, a lot of race highlights post races and kept an eye on the results. A few years back I bought a PSVR2 and Gran Turismo 7. Which just completely opened my world to racing. While I don't get the same G forces as you do in a car. I do however get the intense racing. Watching Max's style over the years and what what he has accomplished both in the real world and virtual world. I was in no doubt that I was witnessing a generational talent. This last weekend I even watched the N24. Eager to see how Max performed among some of the world's best GT drivers. And also keeping an eye on some other cars, like the #632. No doubt GT racing is more exciting than F1. Both to watch and to drive in VR myself.
‘Hand of god’ is such a bad comparison…. Diego knowingly put the ball in the net with his hand and got away with it. Max did nothing wrong. He maximized that specific situation.
Max has proven time and time again he is the best driver out there and is or will be the GOAT.
