Car crash on pedestrian crossing 😱

Very confusing rule, never well advertised or understood by the public. 😅

The crossing rule is a separate discussion to the actual incident which is clearly the truck just not looking. But imo it's really bad to encourage stopping at a crossing like that. If I was a pedestrian I also would not want the driver to stop for me, I'd rather them continue and me just wait for a gap I can safely cross in

Car driver did almost everything correct there, the wagon driver assumed rather than looked and a wake up call for them to move their head around the cab The car driver, in my humblest of opinion, should've slowed as they did but upon seeing the pedestrian slow down at the island they should've then continued. I had this discussion on a separate video recently where these types of junctions and crossings are not adequately covered by H2 and the crossing should be turned into a full pedestrian crossing, either with a push button or timed sequence When all is said and done, the driver with the greatest responsibility failed to check fully it was safe through the green light

What a very strange junction. I don’t think I would have stoped for the pedestrian. Anyway, the right outcome happened. Never been a fan of the change to the Highway Code. To many people have not read it fully or even understood it. To many drivers just ignore it and lots of pedestrians believe the can cross any road at any point and the driver must stop.

Tricky one for the truck driver, their mirrors would've completely obstructed vision of the black Nissan until the last moment.

Why wasn't the pedestrian wearing a helmet and hi-viz? I bet they didn't pay road tax, too.

Where was the truck driver looking? To me, it looks like they've accelerated into the back of the car. Good job, they've bumped the car and not collided with someone walking or riding across the crossing.

The truck came out way too fast. People do stop sometimes just to let a pedestrian to cross, not even at a crossing which is wrong, like when a car stops to let a car out of a junction, if theyd just look in the rear view mirror and see that if their is only a few cars behind that its pointless stopping as the road will be clear after a few cars. Ultimately a "professional" driver will always get the blame.

Just my opinion. I wouldn’t be stopping in my car. There’s no danger to the pedestrian, so they can wait a minute for it to be clear to cross…

The truck driver is at fault, but stopping at that point when there are other vehicles trying to get through a green light at the junction is pretty inconsiderate, unless you actually believe the pedestrian is going to step in front. But the main reason for not doing it is that being unpredictable like this increases your chances of someone damaging your car.

What about Leaving the Junction? And not stopping on it? It was not a pedestrian crossing and pedestrian was Not on the road! So the car should Not have been stopped!

No. And yes. Oh, and it has nothing to do with "a traffic light facing you". It has to do with stop lines, or lack thereof, in this case. A red light facing you does not mean "stop". It means "stop at the stop line". Hence, if there is no stop line, the red light means nothing. I watched a very similar accident happen in front of me the other day without a pedestrian. Lead car turns left onto the road and stops for the red light. The red light is meant for the traffic coming from the right road, so there was no stop line. Following car was simply following too closely and rear ended the lead car. In this case, it is always better to be safe than sorry, especially when dealing with an elderly lady crossing the road. Truck driver had more than enough time to stop, if he had been paying attention and not just driving on auto pilot... "green = go. I go now!"

No he wouldn’t. Car should not have stopped in the middle of the junction. His light was green to go. Pedestrian was on the island waiting for safe passage. Not the drivers obligation to stop in the middle of a junction
