As a Nissan tech I can confirm this. We are trained to NOT do a transmission service if that code is present. Just know, we as techs at the dealerships have little say on what we can recommend and how we have to do things .

I wish I could find a knowledgeable, trustworthy mechanic like you where I live. That's a lot of hoops to jump through to clear a code, not to mention an expensive scanner.

(From a Nissan Master) That P17F0 is a "dumb" code that was made up by engineering. It more or less pops up when primary pulley speed and secondary pulley speeds in the cvt do not match. That code also does not turn the Check Engine Light on. The problem is certain drivability concerns can cause that code (like a weak fuel pump, intake vacuum leaks, or weak ignition coils). That code is kinda like a pointer code if the customer has transmission concern. You're supposed to ignore it if they don't have any.

I'm nearly 75 years old and have owned many makes and models of cars and trucks all the way back to year models 1951. Trust me, the present auto industry does not have your best interests at heart. It's about obsolescence and technology that is far above the average person's head. The love of money is the root of all evil.

That code and the dealership is dependent on one thing. If it's under warranty, it's good to go. If it's out of warranty, you need a new transmission.
