That cat genuinely had one of the strongest Irish accents I've ever heard.
I spent 5 terrific months working on Achill a few years back and it felt like Ireland in microcosm, with cliffs, beaches, winding roads, hills, sheep (grazing the long acre), pubs, bogs, harbours and bays straight out of John Hinde postcards. I've returned a few times and am planning another trip before the month is out. If you had stopped at the point you looked back at Keem ('Kim' as the locals pronounce it) and hiked up the hill for two minutes you would have picked up some amethyst just lying underfoot. It's a magical spot and you captured it beautifully.
I'm still distraught that the world discovered Keem Bay 😢 It was our secret for decades 😊😁
ive been there, climbed up that big mountain in a storm, horrible. saw a pod of dolphins.

The beaches on achill are beautiful. Some other good ones in the West from the top of my head: Rosses point back beach in Sligo, Dogs Bay in Galway, Inch beach in Kerry

Keem has always been incredibly busy. I remember it always being packed in the 90s and early 00s. Achill, unfortunately, relies massively on tourism and has done so since the 19th century. With the basking shark fishing industry coming to an end, options to locals were limited to tourism, fishing, livestock farming or emigration. Colin Farrell’s film is but a footnote in Achill’s history.

The tide level goes up and down according to the moon. The grasses get covered but not all the time which allows them to survive. It happens in a lot of places but usually smaller areas that wouldn’t qualify as a marsh. We can see some on the beach in front of our house and we know it’s a high tide when it gets covered.
Loving the mix of adventure and social history. We were on Achill a couple of years ago and had wondered what the modern standing stones were all about 😂

Excellent video. I was there last year and loved it. The locals pronounce it “Kem” bay even though it’s spelled Keem. Also went whale and dolphin watching on a ribbed boat which was really good and one of the highlights of the trip along with all the local pubs and Guinness too :)
Achill Henge looks fabulous for now , but imagine in 100 years when nature has taken it over, it's going to be an awesome place to visit I love it ❤ I've never heard of it before or seen it , and I agree with the locals it's great 😊
