And yes, that will mean abandoning the current divisive V6 hybrids and their near-50/50 split between internal combustion and electrical power. We take a look at the timeline for that change, how F1's got here (just four rounds into the new era), and which manufacturers are onboard. 00:00 The V8 is coming 02:24 The timing 05:35 A "mega engine"? 07:31 Who's onboard 08:53 A course-correction? Good luck keeping the interest up until 2031...good stars
I’ll believe it when we see/hear it on the track
Viewership might be at the bottom by the time 2031 rolls in.
Getting the interest of manufacturers for V8s until 2031 will be a task, to say the least.
Not even a quarter way through the season and they are already fed up with these engines
Guess I’ll be watching GT3 until the end of the decade
Imagine if they provided 3 options with strict parameters a v8 a v10 or a v12 we dont even get a tyre war anymore, Imagine comparing the Ferrari v12 to a cadilac v8 in battle? F1 has to take a risk again
The only thing is the V8 engines need to be around 15 to 18,000 RPM for the sound
Honda will definitely pull out again
I could be dead by then
I don't think OEMs like Honda, Ford and especially Audi will be happy with this news
Ideally MBS is out long before 2031. 🙄
Highlights on YouTube F1 is the way to watch the current season. No subscription required and I can see the results without having to actually watch the race.
The number of cylinders isn't the core issue. The core issues surround the hybrid/ICE ratio, battery abilities, and overly complex solutions to the fundamental problems. The focus has all been political and financial, whereas it should mainly be about the quality of the spectacle and gladiatorial battles
Any V8 engine layout would be a step back to a better direction.
How is Cadillac supposed to steer their development to join the sport? So they now have to develop a 50/50 engine to join in 2029 and then make a V8 for 2031 already? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the idea but I can see a lot of resistance from some manufacturers...
Just in time for Formula E Gen 5 to be there or thereabouts on pace, and not having to deal with Liberty to boot. I’m sold!
The sport has gotten to the point where I can barely bring myself to tune in when the race is in my timezone, let alone the ones at 5-8 AM.
They should do some testing at the most energy starved circuit on the calendar (Monza?), and figure out the maximum amount of electrification that could be implemented in a gimmickless hybrid manner… if that makes sense? Such that driving style would be fundamentally the same as a regular petrol engine
I'm all for V8 but it is funny that people think it's the magic bullet F1 needs. F1 had V8/V10 in the past and people were still complaining about the racing back then. Truth is, F1 fans will never be truly statisfied.
