From silently working behind the scenes, to building their own car from the ground up, today we're going for a full exploration of the HWA EVO; including a factory tour and first drive! Hosted by Gordian von Schöning, HWA's CTO, we'll discover everything from development, and engines, to production. The HWA EVO is not just a restomod 190 E, it's a total ground up project based on an icon, modernised for the current day. Being based in Affalterbach, HWA was created by the original founder of AMG, and now sits encompassed by the Mercedes performance division, with many years of experience building their race cars and managing customer racing programmes. Today's tour kicks off at HWA HQ with some background on the company, and a look at the immense trophy cabinets that demonstrate their motorsport success. We'll move through many areas of the company before arriving at the prototype cars and an opportunity to go out for a first drive to understand what it's about. My heart sank a little bit when Tim was so obviously disinterested in the DTM car that the host was eagerly trying to discuss. That's what MADE them as a company and you blew the opportunity for all the rest of us to hear him speak on it so you could gawk at that florescent monstrosity.
The 190E was the car that made me fall in love with cars. As a young 5 year old my dad had purchased a 93 190e, it was just a 2.3 but it was so different from the Chrysler fifth avenues and geo metros my family always had. Suddenly I felt connected to a car. I can still smell the leather and see the dash. Riding passenger down the oak lined roads in rural VA. Then seeing similar models race in DTM on tv and on my ps1 toca championship, I was hooked. It is my current "Dream" car. I will forever cherish the picture I have of my father and I standing in front of that car, especially since he is no longer with us.

Funny how the 190e AMG purchased back in the mid 90s, is the one I still regret getting rid of today. Unfortunately the chap I sold it to. Wrapped it round a lamp post 3 days after buying it.
