I appreciate that you were vunerable enough with us to admit that solo travel is not easy, and I totally agree. I've got lost in Spain and experienced racism all while navigating my travels with little fluency in spanish. Once my spanish developed more, I travelled solo to Colombia and got food poisoning and worried if I would even make it home. Solo travelling is not for the weak and takes a lot of courage, but its so worth it.
Hey girl! Just a tip - hold on to EVERY SINGLE RECEIPT. Legally, all European flights have to compensate you when you they lose/misplace your luggage and your incur expenses. That's valid for a few months post travel. You just have to send in copies of the receipts. They forced me to check my carry on when going back to Paris, never put my luggage on the flight (!!), and didn't deliver my bag until A MONTH LATER when I was back home. Girl, the way I ran to Parisian boutiques and bought clothing and charged it right back to them! Cite the Montreal Convention articles when you do if they give you a hard time.
I am starting small, like eating at restaurants alone, going to the movies ect, it was challenging but now I am like yasss, next is a solo trip. 🎉🎉.

I am 48 and have never travelled alone, but I really want to do this. Being single and not having many friends I can travel with, I’ve missed out on time away, so I’m determined to change that this year. ChatGPT (don’t laugh!) suggested Malta as a safe place for a single Black woman, and seeing your video encouraged me even more. When I watched your clip about swimming, it reminded me of an experience I had a couple of years ago while on holiday with a friend. I hadn’t swum for many years and was scared to go into the water, so I missed out on seeing the fish and enjoying the experience. I as so sad that I missed out on such an experience, and I promised myself that would never happen again and that I would retrain when I got home. Life got in the way, and I didn’t—until the end of last year, when I finally decided to commit. It’s been so uplifting. I realised I can still swim; I just need to work on my breathing. My goal is that by the time I go on holiday, I’ll be fully confident and able to swim in the sea.
