I started solo traveling this year, and you're so right about the relief that comes from staying at hostels it's like they’ve signed a contract to keep an eye on you, whether they like it or not!

Hotels and hostels are also way less awful for locals and for the housing market. Airbnb is the most unethical way to travel, everyone should be avoiding it like the plague

I did my first, longer solo trip this summer (10 days in Ireland, I'm Swiss) and it was amazing. I'm an introverted person and I've been going to the movies or classical concerts by myself for years. So for me personally it didn't feel weird going on a solo trip. But if you generally are an extroverted person, maybe make plans for a few group activities during your trip. Even though I'm used to being by myself, I was glad when I could have a chat with people on the train or when I met a fellow solo traveler in a museum, because it can feel a bit lonely after a while. Otherwise, maybe pick a country where you already know the language a bit or where most people can speak English. Also check online how safe a country or city is, if you're concerned about that. And always let a friend or family member know where you are staying. Otherwise, try it out. It's super fun to be able to do whatever you feel like doing. 😊💕

I’ve traveled to 27 countries mostly solo since I was 16 years old and this is really solid advice! 🙌🏾 I would add that you can also bring those handy secondary locks for hotel room doors

I love solo travel! I've been to several countries solo and it's always a great experience. I can do to the things I want to do and eat when I want to without having to consider someone else's needs and wants.

I agree with everything 🥰 I‘m 19 and went to New Zealand for 5 months, without knowing anyone there or anything planned. Bought a camper van and travelled the country in the car. Learned so many things and most importantly, that I am capable of so much more than I think I am. There were many scary things but I always found a way out :) And the idea of solo travelling really is so much scarier than actually doing it. Once I was there, I started figuring everything out. Loved that time and would do it again 100%

I just got back from a solo trip to Italy too! It was one of the best trips I've ever taken! A big confidence boost and it was so refreshing to be able to do literally anything I felt like doing!

For me solo travelling starts with a healthy mindset at home country. You cannot expect from yourself to do it if you cannot go for a coffee, have some lunch alone by yourself it’s baby steps! So make sure you can be self content before a big trip 😊 Last year solo travelled Budapest and Prague no regrets 🎉 Have fun y’all !

The part about solo traveling is not that I would feel scared to try it, or awkward to be by myself. Instead, I feel as if I would be lonely. Like, I want to talk and experience traveling with the person or people I love.

As a 29yo minimalist girl who travels alone for more than a decade, I dress modest, never show skin, go to single day group tours if I'm lonely, treat myself at hotels and stay quiet. It is really not that hard to travel alone. What I don't like is not being able to share some specific moments with loved ones.
