‘Israel: What Went Wrong?’

Entertainment

On this special edition of the Newsmakers, we talk to Holocaust and Genocide studies scholar Omer Bartov, who explains how the moral and political degeneration of Zionism led to Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza. Discussing his newly released book titled 'Israel: What Went Wrong?', Bartov, who was born and raised in Israel, explains how Zionism, which emerged in the 19th century as an idea of Jewish emancipation, has morphed into a radical state ideology of ethno-nationalism centered on violent domination over Palestinians. Bartov argues that while Zionism as a political ideology cannot be reformed, the state of Israel can - but only if it abandons that very ideology.
