Satisfying ASMR PC Restoration & Repair! Can this heavily neglected 2009 Apple Mac Pro handle modern PC gaming in 2026? Today, we fix, clean, and upgrade an $80 Facebook Marketplace score into a budget gaming powerhouse for just $172! Special thanks to @PCBWay for sponsoring this video Go check them out - https://www.pcbway.com/ This isn't just a basic cleanup; we are doing a complete teardown, deep ultrasonic restoration, and flashing this classic machine to unlock its true potential. Here is the full budget breakdown: Apple didn’t just build a computer here; they engineered a literal "tank" with a legendary chassis that completely defies time. Despite its satirical "cheese grater" nickname, the moment you handle the heavy metal and inspect the absolute precision of its interior and exterior layout, you are hit with an exceptional build quality and masterful engineering unseen in modern PC cases. This absolute beast, with its overbuilt structural rigidity and premium materials, proves Apple used to design machines meant to last forever—leaving you in pure awe of how this armored, timeless masterpiece refuses to back down! The Chassis: 2009 Mac Pro dual-socket model snagged for $80. CPU Upgrade: Swapped in the legendary Intel Xeon X5675 for a mere $6. RAM: Packed it with 48GB (3x16GB) of DDR3 ECC 12800R memory for $36. GPU: Added the absolute budget king—the GTX 1060 3GB—for just $50. For $172, the results are absolutely shocking. This machine runs incredibly smooth, pushing well over 180 FPS on maximum settings in competitive titles. Watch the full video for the restoration process, hardware modifications, power delivery logistics, and full gaming benchmarks! The Northbridge in the 2009 Mac Pro (Early 2009, Mac Pro 4,1) regulates critical communication between the CPU, RAM, and PCIe slots. A common failure point is the heatsink's spring-loaded plastic mounting pins ("stays"), which degrade and snap from heat over time, causing overheating and potential logic board failure. 🕒 Timestamps: 00:00 - The $80 Facebook Marketplace Score 00:33 - Disassemble 04:43 - Remove heatsink 09:13 - CPU Upgrade Xeon X5675 11:10 - Northbridge Heatsink Repair 22:00 - Assemble 26:00 - Gaming Performance & Benchmarks (GTA V) #MacPro #HardwareRestoration #GamingPC #GTX1060 #BudgetGaming #TechDIY #Xeon #MacProUpgrades

Please don’t use SATA power connectors to power a GPU, it could end up burning out the entire PC. Instead, use the two power connectors located near the middle front fan. Those are specifically meant for supplying power to a graphics card (you’ll need an adapter cable).
I used to dream of owning this beast back in 2010, but it was incredibly expensive. With taxes and customs, it used to cost around $5,000 in my country—which is a fortune by today's standards. It was one of my biggest dreams, and today I'm actually looking for one. You just brought back so many memories, and I’m definitely going to start searching for a unit to upgrade just like you did. Thank you so much!
You need to connect the 12V power supply to the GPU by connecting it in parallel with the power cable from the PSU; do not supply power through any SATA power ports.
You’re so lucky the Northbridge plastic rivets didn’t snap! That was a huge design flaw in this machine. Apple used to charge around $750 just to replace the whole processor tray board because of it.
Recently modded a power mac g5 case into standard atx format. Best diy project of my life
Why did you put all that dust and dirt inside ?
The whole point of this video is an instruction on how to spread dirt and create an appearance of cleanliness. if the author had honestly originally had the goal of bringing perfect cleanliness, he would have used an alcohol ultrasonic bath and an air compressor and would not have made a mistake like the one where he leaves trade stickers on the operative memory. All of this video is a guide to what not to do.
A lot of those are still usable today, especially the dual processor ones. Now I wouldn't run OSX on them, but I've seen people using them as their daily drivers.
I would tone down the rust in your thumbnail because I was expecting it to be covered in it. I get it, a wide shot doesn't show how rough a shape this computer is in. I don't mind if you exaggerate how dusty this thing is, becuase... yeah it's quite dusty.
Very satisfying deep cleaning! Loved the rubber-duck themed brush :D
компресор и продувка сжатым воздухом давно изобретено,
Is there anything more relaxing than watching someone painstakingly restore an amazingly over-engineered piece of hardware? When I was managing a pro-audio rental shop and cartage service in the mid-2000s we used to rent out full Pro Tools multitrack recording rigs and we used these Mac Pros in them. They were absolute beasts and I'd love to have one some day. Built like a Swiss watch or a German tank, and expensive as hell when they were ordered as top-of-the-line as ours were.
Are you sure it's 2009, not 1909? The amount of dust and even SAND is unfathomable.
The best saturday morning cup of Coffee and your video.
Never in all my days did I think id see Phantom Pain on a G5 lol great build video dude !
Was that Grand Theft Camel?
Good find on the memory, was that used?
If you had an ultrasonic cleaner big enough could you dunk the parts in that?
Windows?! 🤐
beautiful work
