I recently watched a video where some young japanese carpenters restored an old akiya from the Meiji time. They had to replace some structural beams as well as some cornerstones and earth walls. It reminded me of you and your struggles with your house. I highly respect your efforts and hope everything works out for the three of you! (Also, we finally got to know Pancake's voice XD )

When I see 150 year old structures like this, I imagine the people working on that house and the differences in building techniques and effort between then and now. Amazing, simply amazing. Also, I'm glad to see that Supervisor Pancake approved of your PPE upgrades. Another great video. Be safe.

for those beams that are not completely gone with woodrot. I restore wooden sailboats and there is a way where you wont have to remove the beam but treat it. The structural strenght in the treated part will become as strong or stonger than the good beam. You will never get any termites or insects in that part again.You showed one beam in the video that could use the treatment we do. We liquify two part exposy compound with an amount of solvent and we inject it and soak it into the rotten part. If there lots of cavities you can create a paste with cabosil that will be extremely strong. This paste can be applied after the beam has been injected and driedTo fill any gaps left. As the exposy dries it will glue and soldify any wood splinters or wood dust left inside the beam. We use this for any wood as well as structural beams that we encounter. The beam treated should it has lost some of its shape you can rebuild with fiberglass cloth to bring it to the same asethetics/shape of the healthy wood. Of course it will be also waterproof. This will outlast your lifetime. It saves time, money and manual work of having to remove and reinstall. The end result is a much stronger structurally sound piece of wood. This has been a very short explanation you should research more about it. My reconstructions are still doing blue water sailing encountering all types of conditions and they have retain the strenght trhoughout. I hope it helps you, best of luck.
