Let's talk, book a consultation here: https://www.mrandmrsadventure.com/consultation In this episode of our off-grid renovation journey, we begin works on The Grand Staircase, along with placing the custom oak stair treads, pouring self-leveling concrete, installing handmade bullnose edging, and just as we were about to start tiling the theater room, disaster struck. Bubbling paint from trapped moisture forced us to peel back the layers and problem solve for something we did not expect. Mario has been such a godsend. He has such a wide array of skill sets, and genuinely cares about the end product, making sure things are both done right and turn out beautifully. Besides being an invaluable asset to the project, it appears you've made an incredible friend... the most valuable asset of all.❤
Limewash paint is the only way to go
Why don't you paint with lime? very breathable and works very well with dampness
The disappointment on your face when the paint problem was discovered was real. Sorry that happened. The road is not always straight, but congrats on the overall success of your home. It’s looking great 😊! Deep breath, inhale then exhale, ahhhh! ❤
everything is so beautiful! ferg is a rock star.
You must be getting to the point where you just want it to be done. I always find that the last push is the hardest because you’re going on fumes and life has become so tedious. You’ll need a long rest once you get your habitation license.
That tiled theatre really makes the space look bigger and there is so much character in the wood grains. 🥰
You could have bought a boring brand new modern build house but you chose an amazing old mill next to running water. Probably always have minor problems of damp and you'll deal with them. Nothing better than having a unique home full of character.😊
A+ for attitude!
Your home is looking beautiful.
Lime wash paint and french drains around the whole house…
I couldn't imagine not watching till the end 💜💛 I love watching your vision come to life.
Old House in a valley with water table just below, hills above draining into this water table, its to be expected one must use breathable products and not trap moisture. Correct. It will be an ongoing battle, try not to stress about it and just live with it, the house will need good airflow via perhaps like in France, homes primarily use a Controlled Mechanical Ventilation system (known locally as VMC or Ventilation Mécanique Contrôlée) for air circulation.
You should contact Andrea and Omar at The Indigo Escape in Northern Portugal. They had the same problem in Andea's mum's room but I think they have now solved it. It's a soul-destroying episode for you guys, but I know you'll figure it out. Good luck! X
Three steps forward, two steps back. At the end of this you two are going to be "the" defacto experts on moving to Portugal and ruin renovations! Impressive job done so far!💪🛠👍🏆
Every video it is getting close to get your piece of your haven to be lovely home.
Super good videography and music The work is amazing The presentation- excellent
Britney your cinematic skills are giving major motion picture vibes. The zooms on the castle are epic. Total rush. Excellent work! 😘💕
Oh my gosh, this is almost too much to endure having to scrape off the total paint job. Oh well, it's a learning process and figuring out what types of materials will work well on your watermill build. Thanks for showing us all of your positive and negative work outcomes.
My house is 125 years old and very, very close to the beach. We have always had humidity problems so, besides using special paints, etc. we wood panelled the worst wall we have in the house, leaving a small gap behind so the wall can breathe. But you’ll have to learn to live with this problem, take it easy.
