My local dealer took my heritage springer for a joy ride and totaled it and denied wrecking it blaming another dealer that they transferred the bike too, then they went bankrupt
I told someone at our local HD dealer I was interested in a used 48 just to rip around town, and he called a couple weeks later to tell me he had a bike coming in on trade. He sent me pictures and it looked sweet so we set up a time for me to see it and take it for a test ride. The night I was set to go in, he called and said he didn’t have the bike because the truck driver bringing it in apparently took it to the wrong dealership and I could go a few day later to see it. Kind of odd but his story seemed believable. I go in that weekend and we go for a test ride. It sputters out and dies 1/2 a mile down the street. When a guy from the dealership came to pick the bike up and tow it back, I heard him go off on the sales person saying “you weren’t supposed to take this bike out” and “so and so told you not to sell it” and something like “this bike is a POS and you knew you weren’t supposed to sell it”. I rode in the truck back to the dealership and the driver said the bike never went to the wrong dealership and his story was BS, said this guy made a bad deal on a trade in and this 48 was actually a POS bike that shouldn’t even be on the street. He said the dealership wasn’t going to sell it because it needed so much work done it wasn’t even worth their time. What a wild experience. Really crushed my impression of that shop and I was so disheartened - I intentionally went to the dealership so I could feel confident buying a used bike (even knowing I would pay top dollar) as I trust they wouldn’t sell a lemon knowingly. Not only was I not supposed to be test riding that bike, but I got the impression that had the test ride been fine the shop would have sold me the bike. Wild, wild experience that I somehow got lucky with.
