One thing you guys should mention is that unless you can charge at home, an EV might not be the best choice for you. What happened over the Easter holidays in sydney will happen again and again. Most EV owners charge at home, so there's not really a market for building more and more fast chargers. Basically, charging at home is super cheap and super convenient. So fast charging is for tourists and other edge cases. Dont rely on it day to day.
Have a brief look at MAHINDRA XEV 9S
what about the geely ex5?
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV?
Thanks for the record fuel prices, Dozy Donald.
I wonder how Toyota Rav4 PHEV stacks up against these
I’ve got a hybrid and I’ve never had the fuel economy advertised or anywhere near it. I could have saved my money.
very nice video. There is a concept that only by making mistakes do people learn lessons properly. Yeah. Many people over decades end up buying and driving different cars. Everyone has to go through it in a way. I remember many years ago the first person I rode in who bought "the best" electric car and explained they were really tired of the maintenance that a typical gas car needs. He just didn't want that hassle and cost anymore. When was this, 10 to 15 years ago? Also it takes a generation or two for habits to change, there is also that... which is why things are slow to change.
No mention on REEVs? That’s disappointing as they have an advantage over PHEVs, utilising only one drive train connected to the battery and the engine is a generator. I have been driving the Leapmotor C10 REEV for a year now and it’s been great; 170km battery range, and 1000 total if you want to fuel up.
I’ve had my Yaris Cross hybrid for 5 years now and it is hands down the best car I’ve ever had. Reliable, cheap to run & can do long trips very easily.
What crunch? Unleaded in Mount Isa is as cheap as its ever been atm. 😅
Great information thank you. I own a 2023 Volvo C40 we bought new. Great vehicle. Had an MG ZSEV before that.
Qashqui isn't a conventional hybrid. It's technically a EREV. The petrol engine never drives the wheels, it's purely a generator. The drive train is 100% electric. Also there are quite a few mild hybrids that can move on electric only for short period and/or low speed, I have one on my fleet.
Diesel is still the go in the extreme outback with 100's of KMs between towns,? Or will a Plugin hybrid spend more fuel carrying the engine and batteries?
What happens when your distributor pulls out of Australia - like Holden?
Another great video. Thanks for the update.
I'm happy with my hybrid. It only has around 80km of electric range, but that's all I need for my daily commute. Beats buying expensive petrol at the moment.
erev the benzine motor is generator for full ev this motor should be designed much simpler with very high efficiency
To my mind a PHEV is the best compromise. Mine does 65km on a charge, which is more than I do in normal day to day driving. So it's basically an electric car for all but the handful of times I want to go further, and when I do there's zero stress about finding a charger for it. Also, regardless of what people's perceptions are, Chinese cars are here to stay. And for most people, on most journeys they're absolutely fine. People used to mock Hyundai. People used to mock Toyota FFS.
Great info, thanks Paul
