I don’t think the queen has ever been given enough credit for her grace and dignity in extraordinary times
"I want them to see what they've done to Jack." - Jackie Kennedy, when offered a change of clothes.
It was deliberate. She knew they would be standing there, and she was going to shove what they did in their faces.
She also had the Star Spangled Banner played at the Changing of the Guard 2 days after 9/11. Little gestures that said so very very much.
I'll never forgot watching the recording of Jackie, in a state of shock, try to put her husband's head back together. I can't imagine that shock, confusion, denial, then grief and horror.
Having the bell ring was such a sign of respect.
Jackie wore the outfit as they swore the vice president in on an airplane. She refused to change clothes. She wanted history to see and remember.
Well I mean, I think you can be unhappy in a marriage and still be completely traumatised when your husband is assassinated right next to you while driving down a road.
She understood that we are living in a small world, now, and loss like this assassination was felt by many nations.
Rest in eternal peace beautiful Queen Elizabeth 2. ❤
She grieved like a real person. No merching. No gaudiness. True sorrow.
U can have unhappy moments in a marriage The love is still there.
I love her how the queen handled this. Grace
The same queen dedicated and gifted an acre of British soil in the memory of the POTUS John F. Kennedy in perpetuity at the same meadow King John sealed the Magna Carta. The United Kingdom gifted a 1-acre plot of land at Runnymede, Surrey, to the United States as a permanent memorial to President John F. Kennedy. Dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II and Jackie Kennedy on May 14, 1965, the site uniquely serves as sovereign American soil within the United Kingdom.
That’s profound. After something worse comes along, you realize it was happiness after all.
Jackie did what Emmet Tills' Mom did. 😢
The First Lady wanted to show the world what ‘they’ had done
I am in my early 70's but I could go to the classroom I was in , the desk I was sitting in when the nun said "children get ready to go home quietly, the president has been killed" in a calm, reassuring voice that we all needed. You could hear a pin drop as we gathered out things to walk home. When we got home the black and white TV was on, we could tell our mom had been crying and my dad came home earlier then he usually did. The depth of sadness will never be forgotten. The other moment I remember was when John John saluted his daddy out president ad the casket passed the familyim black.😢
Claire Foy is fabulous as the Queen.
At 71 years old, I still remember President Kennedy's assassination. It still brings tears to my eyes.
