No wet belts or complex repairs. You can see why they are popular.
Why re-invent spark plugs with a taper!π€
Iβve owned one of these for 2 years and changed oil every 6 month and fit a set of tyres, good car if you look after them
I know what he's saying about the disc wear, however, can't blame the previous mechanic because we don't know if it was recommended by that mechanic and refused by the customer?
I dont know why but i actually really like it when they show an ordinary plain car and not some kind of chipped up merc or bmw. π
Yep - there is oil consumption written in my old Zafira B 1.8 petrol manual. I pointed this to my mechanic and he was shocked, then he said that it shows som level of honesty for GM.π
The eco tec engines donβt burn oil if you look after them. Mine has 105k and doesnβt burn a drop. Oil changes every 5k. If a car burns oil then itβs not being serviced regular enough. Those of Us who know about cars change the oil every 5k miles. And those who think they know about cars do it every 16 or 20 k miles

It's funny how oil consumption is just considered to be "normal", and a lot of people don't even blink an eye. A litre seems like a LOT. I wonder how they word it in their manual . A neighbour's Tiguan was consuming a load of oil and the dealership mechanic said it was completely normal for the 2.0 TDI. I went looking for something official from VAG on that and found a Volkswagen Technical Service Bulletin (TSB No. 2017813), which says that VW's official oil consumption standard is up to 0.5 litres per 1,000 km. However, what they didn't state there is that they only consider consumption "high" and "worthy of investigation" if it's OVER 1L/100km. So, that's essentially the same as Vauxhall/Opel here!
Why would anyone design spark plugs that could crack the head? What is the point?
I've driven several Opels (continental Vauxhall) and never had oil consumption issues - and never was the first owner. Cruze now (so just a different badge but an Ecotec block nonetheless) and still no oil consumption. I can't possibly be just lucky, can I?
Tbf I've got an Astra with the EcoTec engine, it's pretty reliable overall but it definitely does drink oil π
Have one of these 1.6 turbo in estate elite trim, every gadget you could want plus 200bhp with a stonking 300nm!!,Β£215 tax & 45mpg.Easy to service myself with 6 monthly oil + filter changes.Very underrated car imo!!
Great video. Its been years since I carried out filter changes and fresh oil so I'm keen to learn how to go about it when the time comes. I'll need a set of ramps too!
Strong touch engines
I would take my car to this guy any day. Very thorough. Good honest mechanic.
This guy is fantastic.
Lads are brilliant
I have the 2,0 Ecotec in two of my Saabs and they are the best engine ever built. Easy to work on, reliable and best of all, they don't drink even one centilitre of oil between the services. π
