SURPRISE FINDINGS! New Toyota RAV4 review Australia

Autos and Vehicles

I expected better. Honestly. Subscribe here: www.youtube.com/@therightcar?sub_confirmation=1 The new Toyota RAV4 HEV is a BRILLIANT SUV. Let me get that out of the way. But it's not the benchmark setting moment that the last version was. The market has changed and other brands have caught up - and even OVERTAKEN Toyota - so this new-gen RAV4 is a bit disappointing in some ways. You'll see what I mean if you watch the video til the end. This DETAILED REVIEW covers all the stuff you NEED TO KNOW about the New Toyota RAV4, including pricing, specs, fuel efficiency, safety, technology, driving, ownership and more. NOTE - I will do a separate review on the Toyota RAV4 PHEV at a later date. -- SHOUTOUT to the LEGEND Shana at Drive Thru Media with her AMAZING content - check her out! https://youtube.com/@drivethrumedia_official?si=XzvDzcYq2RJRVOb9 ALTERNATIVES: Honda CR-V - https://youtu.be/lQ3bfEiIBdo MG HS Hybrid+ - https://youtu.be/4jNGDnMZskU Kia Sportage - https://youtu.be/CV599V8wA60 WATCH: Previous Toyota RAV4 review - https://youtu.be/gda7EW6gyLs Hyundai Tucson - https://youtu.be/xVeQ8VPUGTM BYD Sealion 6 - https://youtu.be/c9DZekeHF3E MORE FAMILY SUVS - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBy4fvI8Hf_TDQkbdJacbkA_xrNjFLF8y MORE HYBRID CAR REVIEWS - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBy4fvI8Hf_R9RHcW0ATYoS0RV7wbaNeM -- WATCH MY PREVIOUS RAV4 coverage: Prototype drive - https://youtu.be/NOAKTdAhQkA Preview content - https://youtu.be/hx1_mtVjB1Y -- 00:00 New Toyota RAV4 Australia 00:26 Is it the right price? 04:28 What are the best alternatives? 06:25 Is it the right size? 09:34 Interior 18:33 Under the bonnet 19:26 Driving 25:50 Efficiency 26:57 Is it safe? 28:23 Ownership 29:40 Verdict -- I am aiming to review every new car on the market that people actually buy, to help new-car customers like you, or curious car enthusiasts (maybe also like you) get the right steer when it comes to choosing a new set of wheels. Why can’t we choose smaller wheels with larger tyres? They look ridiculous with tiny little disc brakes, are louder and the tyres are more expensive to replace!

25:43 the biggest let down of japanese cars in general is road noise. That is problably the biggest reason why people get euro brands.

What happened to integrated instrument cluster and infotainment designed dashboards? The inclusion of tablets, particularly for the instrument cluster cheapens the whole driver experience in my opinion and just looks like a lazy design. Would like to see dashboards like the one in the RAV4 done better and not copied from cheaper competitors to secure sales.

My 2023 GXL is running fantastic! I personally don’t mind the absence of physical buttons; I’ll get used to it. I remember complaining when Apple discontinued the charger adaptor and removed the home button for the home swipe feature. 😅

So gx and gxl no driver monitoring? And interior light in the centre? I do not want a cruiser just by those two things

There is one thing that is beginning to get on my nerves about new cars and it's the dash. Gone seem to be the days when designers integrated the instrument panel into a contoured dashboard. Now all they do is plonk an iPad in front of the steering wheel. I'm presuming it's to cut costs and make profits but it's lazy and ugly.

I’ve had a cruiser awd for a month. It’s not perfect or a performance vehicle, but it’s still impressive. The reliability, dealer network, resale and brand familiarity is why I keep coming back. When you add up the cruiser extras the price difference in grades was worth it for me. I find it very comfortable and easy cover long drives. Avg 6 litres on the hwy and 5.5 urban .. I have seen low 4’s on a short run on flat ground. It will also punish the economy into the 10’s if you drive it hard on hilly terrain. The 360 camera fogs up every time in the rain ..that’s worse than the driver monitor for me. I considered a 26 Outback touring, but the 2.5 cvt combo was a bit risky for me in terms of reliability fuel economy and performance.

Toyota not even bothered to throw in HD cameras for mere additional $5.

Honestly nowadays they all look the same to me. I’m constantly in & out of these daily for my work. Omg the video game sounds when getting into those Chinese brands non stop until the seat belt is clicked in and large screens. No way will i buy any of these. Ironically it’s worse for road safety all distractions. And then there’s next level stupidity with no ignition button and no handbrake button. That’s 1 Chinese brand model that doesn’t have ignition button nor handbrake button. Suv starts when seat belt is clicked into driver side and door closed then it starts & brake is disengaged automatically and when you want to turn off just release driver seat belt and open door and handbrake is automatically engaged. No thanks. These vehicles will catastrophically fail And Australian law allows this? Ancap is nonsense

GXL Hybrid AWD is the sweet spot. Ecvt is arguably the best in the automotive industry. AWD also is active rather than reactive.

That grill will be changed on next update, surely. Tell the dealer it looks stupid. I couldn't face that every day.

Sounds like a DEAD EASY one to eliminate from the buying list. And so expensive. Even the base model.
