You could also just weld a bare 2" receiver to a piece of plate steel and bolt it vertically inside your bed. That will let you not only store it securely (and lock it if you want), but also keep it out of the way of the rest of your cargo.

As soon as I saw the first part of the video my thought was "That's a great way to lose it if it doesn't reach back far enough to be pinned." One hard brake, or even stop and go driving down a steep hill, and your hitch is now someone else's. My truck came with plastic trays under the rear seat, perfectly sized to hold things like my hitch, my heavy duty jumper cables, and a bunch of ratcheting tie downs.

Around here we have trailer and stinger thieves (hitch is the receiver bolted to the truck, stinger is what the ball is bolted to). Neither of my two trailers have the same size coupler so whenever I drop the trailer, I pull the stinger and secure the ball back in the coupler then wrap the safety chains around the trailer tongue and stinger and lock it.

The pin was my first thought, that shank is only so long. The tire didn't occur to me, but I've also had a lot of vehicles that it was used and never replaced before I owned it.

I got one of those cargo carrier things that mount to the trailer hitch. I have a little Mitsubishi mirage and I do pull my boat with that car when I use it. I leave the hitch connected to the trailer and I swap the cargo carrier with the hitch. The cargo carrier keeps people off my ass when driving and it's definitely destroyed some people's shims because how low it it. In an accident it wouldn't be helpful, but it does add 2 feet of space off the back of my car

I have one of those adjustable dual hitches. All I have to do is just take the pins, flip the ball sideways, then swing it underneath. And bam, tucked away underneath the receiver.😂

Giving trucks a reach around is diabolical

Keeping my hitch installed has saved me 4 times when idiots were on their phones instead of their brakes.

Same thing i told my dad. He was like it fits in my pickup. I was like well it won't in most. I'm not getting under there every time i have to hook up a trailer or give something a tow.
