You've reached the end
Sacrifice the turbo to save to the engine
For anyone who hasn't seen this happen before: this is a diesel runaway. The engine starts sucking in its own motor oil (because of bad turbo seals) and burns it like fuel. Once it starts, turning the key off does absolutely nothing. It’ll just keep screaming until the motor grenades itself. The only way to save the engine is to completely choke off the air supply. Grab a clipboard or a solid piece of wood, whatever flat object you can find and slap it over the turbo intake to suffocate it.
BARE FINGERS into the EYE OF THE TURBO is NUTS
A short burst from a co2 fire extinguisher robs oxygen from engine and stalls it without major damage.
The girl saying what happen was added but the original video he's fixing the truck and gets engine running then kabloom this happen I'm pretty sure
On location I had a a diesel overheating and run way engine. I had a clipboard on a toolbox close by it shattered. It almost got my hand. Had a bucket lid that did the trick.
This is why I ALWAYS have a 1/2 to 3/4 cut piece of plywood when I fresh start or work on fuel systems on diesels
No that's a 2 cycle Detroit diesel and the fuel rack is stuck causing the run away not engine oil
Damn Good Save""😮
Need a giloteen shut off valve with spring to pull it closed.
super quick reaction
Good ol Detroit 353!
Knew a guy in thr military that had a tank go runaway during Nam. He tried to stop it with a clipboard and it just sucked it inside and ate it. Another guy jumped on the controls and tried to stall it off by jamming it in gear and just succeeded in driving it through the wall and into the motor pool before the clipboard chunks finally finally ruined something or the engine blew. He never found out because the genius that drove it was tasked with the repairs
That's how you do it I've been saying it for years but everybody says it cannot be done now there's factual proof thanks for the video
Had this happen when I was a mechanic in the army. The motor was out of the truck for repairs we were adjusting the rack when it just took off. We always kept a clip board on the wall for when this happened. Seen a couple blow up and it was one of the loudest things I ever heard. Once they get going there dangerous.
That Detroit has a stuck injector rack. Anytime after working on the governor & rack, have a metal plate handy.
I gotta give credit here
Very good save❤
The head bow after killing it😢 I felt that bro
A 71 or 53 series Detroit had a damper at the blower inlet already built in to the engine. Just flip the lever and it will close from the blower suction. Don’t know too much about Detroits with turbos as I’m old school.
