Best Food in Leyte (with Erwan Heussaff)

Food

In this episode, Erwan Heussaff explores Leyte, a province where history, faith, geography, and food intersect. From Palo Market with Chef Mark Sabayan to home cooks preparing regional specialties, and the makers of binagol and moron, this food crawl reveals how Leyte’s cuisine is shaped by its people and its past. Guided by historian Joycie Alegre and local cooks, we trace how World War II, coastal life, inland agriculture, and Waray identity continue to influence everyday meals. I really enjoy watching FEATR because their videos showcase the rich and diverse food cultures across the Philippines. Their content helps people who are unfamiliar with certain regions discover local dishes and understand the stories behind them. It’s almost like an awakening for viewers who didn’t realize how unique and different Filipino food can be from place to place. At the same time, their videos inspire people to travel, try new foods, and explore different parts of the Philippines, which also helps boost tourism and support local communities. 🙌🙌🙌

This video makes me want to visit Leyte even more! It’s amazing to see how much rich Philippine history is there. I also didn’t realize how thoughtfully prepared the local food is—especially how balanced the dishes are. So cool to learn about this! 😊

As a Waraynon, I'm really grateful for featuring Leyte because it's true, it only gets few documentaries the reason why people don't recognize it. And personally, watching this makes me want to learn and study the history of my hometown. I hope we get more documentaries like this.
