When an athlete from North Korea, China or Soviet Union did this, itβs the punishment if they lost. But when an American like Kerri Strug did the same, itβs the story about courage, grace and glory. Edit: For anyone who is misunderstanding my point of view. My comment is sarcasm and I was referring to double standard when an American does the same thing as a Soviet/Chinese or North Korean but got different treatments. For example, at Atlanta 1996 when Kerri Strug injured her leg after 1st vault, she went on completing the 2nd vault and the injury got more serious that she could only stand with one leg. Her action was later honored as courage, patriotismβ¦ But 20 years later at Rio 2016, like in this video, Ri Gwang-se did the same thing, got himself injured after 1st vault but went on completing the 2nd one. And just like this video did, he was mocked as βneeded to winβ because βthere will be punishment for not failuresβ.
